can i put the transmission from a 05 Dakota transmission into a 07 ram 1500? is the same transmission with same bolt pattern but someone told me the wire harness might be different. Does anyone know if it would be a straight swap or is there more to it than that? any information would be greatly appreciated.

As long as they are both matching units from two wheel drive trucks or four wheel drive trucks they will both be the same. All of the sensor connectors are the same with one exception. The solenoid pack connectors may be different. The large connector on the left side of each trans is for the solenoid pack. Verify that both units have the same solenoid pack connector which can be identified by the color of the connector. There are white, black and some grey connectors depending on who manufactured the solenoid pack. If the torque converter from the Ram is still good then that would be the one I would use when performing the swap. The Dakotas and the Rams have different torque converter stall speeds.

Doesn't matter if the replacement is 2wd or 4wd, you can always swap the tailshaft and transfer case adapter easy peasy.

You are correct good Sir. I normally leave that part out because not everyone is comfortable with doing this. Not everyone has the mechanical aptitude to perform the swap.
