Speaking of painting.. I'm wanting to re-color my door handles and side mirror shells, both of which are unfortunately that ****** chrome-plated plastic. The Google says that you can use products like drain cleaners, and acetone to dissolve that metallic layer since it won;t hurt the plastic underneath.
Wondering if anyone here's done this before? What were the results?

I used to build scale models when I had time and that was my go to paint stripper, especially when I needed to remove "chrome" from parts, bumpers and wheels and what not

Usually it would be a matter of minutes and the part would be ****** white again

Im betting there isnt much difference between those parts and what you're working with, plus, chances are you got a can of it allready so it's a zero loss proposition to try out

Oven cleaner works well, don't get it on your hands, I use to use it on my models as a kid!! MEK also does well but the fumes are not good (Methel Ethel Ketone), it's also good for dissolving some adhesives.
