More on GM's V8 cheapness issue. How to go out of business 101 - install another bean counter as CEO (see Roger B. Smith from the 80's), cut corners and outsource to low bidders, stick your successors with the baggage of your product failures, claim payouts, and lost business:

"NHTSA has now opened a probe into the whole matter. At the time of writing, GM has recalled 721,000 vehicles worldwide, with 597,571 in the U.S alone (with L87 engines).

GM says engines built after June 1, 2024 are not affected by the defect."

Doesn't this imply they KNOW WHY the engines failed? i.e. - outsource crank machining to a low bid offshore cheapo? and then not random sample the parts received?

MBA 101 FAIL

They've had problems for over a decade and a half. Don't ask how I know. Didn't even make it 90k miles. By their standards nowadays, I guess I wore it out. Lol

Lifter failure, bent pushrod, broken spring, followed up by bent valve. It was an awesome Wednesday afternoon.

Yeah, that's the lifter - the crank is a new low.

Yeah and let's not forget about the "acceptable" oil consumption (quart in 1k mi) they also struggle with. Thankfully my 6.2l doesn't burn oil. But its a waiting game now for when the driver's side lifters let go or get stuck & collapse.
Like I said they've had problems & just keeps getting worse.

Does 6.2 have cylinder cutout? If yes, GM's design turns into an oil-pumper, as you know (which is why I ditched them for wiping cams  with Hemi architecture). App. 40,000 miles for dino oil, syn oil keeps it at bay to app. 60,000+ miles. That's when my piston rings froze.

Yes the 6.2 does (atleast mine does) but it hardly comes on when I watch it on the screen. That and if you put it in Tow mode it stays off. The 5.3 though apparently cuts out cylinders more frequently.
The photo I posted is one of the lifters that does it. Yeah I could of eliminated it and programmed it out but I didn't have time for all that. I had to get it back up for my wife. Plus I was able to locally source all the parts, including the valve and seal shockingly enough, so it got a lap job by hand with all new passenger side lifters, head bolts, gasket, pushrod, ect. and sent it.
It is a good driver with 420hp so kinda worth it. Lol

And to think I wanted the 6.2 back when. Before I knew these cylinder cutouts were unreliable.

If somebody used the Daimler-Benz MDS in a non-Hemi V8 block (that lubricates the camshaft properly), it wouldn't be an issue!! Insteady, both GM & Ram screwed it up.

And then there's the twin-turbo mouse motors. *sigh* Or a diesel with a chemical factory in the exhaust stream. *sigh* *sigh*

They have like 17 different firing orders depending on what cylinders it cuts out. No thank you.

It's a shame to see the decline in durability on the 6.2L. The LS3 remains one of the most bulletproof motors GM ever built. Anecdotally, you see more complaints of lifter failure as the motors get newer...
