looks like I may be buying a rebuilt 4.7 soon.anyone out there got any recommendations.live near atl but not limited to buying locally.just want a solid rebuild with a warranty that will be honored 100% (no laughing please)
should I consider replacing tranny also.just concerned that new motor and high mileage tranny (176500) won't be compatible for long. your honest and thoughtful opinions are welcomed

If you are just looking for a re manufactured engine, you really can't go wrong with a Jasper engine. There are several places around Atlanta that are authorized installers and the Jasper warranty is pretty good.

I'm not sure about the tranny, I know I had no problems out of the tranny in 2 Dakotas I owned with the 4.7L. As long as it has been serviced when it was supposed to, you should be fine.

You might also check out Chix Engine and Machine Shop in Marietta they have been in business for a long time and I've never heard anything bad about them. I've never priced a rebuild from them, but I have had them do machine work for me. They milled the heads .020 for my 2006 Charger for $100 (I pulled the heads and brought the heads to them).

Just service the tranny and hope for the best. Don't change it solely on mileage if it hasn't been giving you any trouble. Just my opinion. I believe it is the same tranny that got installed with the Hemi's, so it has been seeing less torque than its designed to withstand.
