I met up with a guy to buy some parts off him and we talked about his 4.7 he built up. He had a lift, 35’s, had 4.56’s, electric fan, home made cold air intake, and I THINK he had the high output cam. Sounds about what you have planned. He let me drive it around town for a couple minutes. It was ok, but my stock Hemi was still way ahead of it. Trust me, I’m all for building what you got and I love a project, but you will be fighting a big uphill battle. The biggest thing is the lack of aftermarket support and options. With a Hemi there are a ton of performance Parts and info, but nothing like what the LS engines have. The 4.7 just doesn’t have much room to grow. If you already plan on getting a cummins, I’d strongly suggest saving your money towards that right now. A turbo charged off road truck isn’t really practical especially how much a turbo set up is gonna cost. If you are already planning on 4K before a turbo, add another couple grand for a turbo setup. I would just save that money towards the cummins. I know it’s hard to wait, trust me

A 6.4 hemi swap would be cool but all that money could be used toward buying a cummins

I put 7 grand into just my stroker build. I still have another 2 grand to put into a trans that will handle the power. Then add a few more grand to a turbo setup. And that was doing all the work myself, don’t forget the extra cost of paying some one else to do it if you can’t. Check out Hemi Truck Club and read through the guys with their turbo set up. You’ll realize that going with a custom boost application brings on a whole new world of issues and expenses you’ll have to deal with.

Lets think about it like this. You don’t want to do a 6.4 setup because that’s all money that can go toward buying a Cummins.

But you’re ok with spending 10k on a truck that’s worth less than 4k, and ending up with much less power and reliability than that 6.4 would provide. And at the same time, that is all money that can go into buying a Cummins as well.

And at the end of the day, there is no such thing as having a “daily driven, beater 4.7” with 160k miles, a big cam and a custom turbo setup etc especially on the stock trans. That thing will be constantly broken and needing adjustments/tweaking.

Not trying to sound like a jerk, but IMO that plan doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense. If you want a Cummins, just put your money towards that.

Yea i cant get a new truck for a couple more years so im going to try to get as much out of current one without getting involved in a motor swap probally wont even do a turbo the more that i think about it

You want the easiest 300 wheel for 4k? Drop a clean 5.7 in your truck and get a diablosport Ntune I3 and throw a canned tune on it. Better yet, do full bolt ons and a 6.1 intake and get a custom tune. Easy, cheap 300 wheel. Wanna go from there? Shelf cam or custom cam.

Is like everyone said. The 4.7 isn't a good choice for a fast motor. Especially not turboing it or doing all this other stuff to it.

Honestly, use your "turbo money" to buy an engine hoist and engine stand, and learn how to pull and strip the motor. Then use the 4k to get a junkyard 5.7 and rehab it with upgraded components for the full bolt ons, cam, and tune. Then get an 05 pcm and do that swap.

Start while you're ahead and haven't yet spent too much on your 4.7. And don't forget to sell the old stock parts off the junkyard motor to recoup cost/get extra for mods.

Someone ball park him the total cost on this going with a $300-$500 charge for the junkyard engine, the best bang for buck ceramic coated long tubes, and a diablo Ntune i3.
