For best results, heat is required. A hair dryer is more than sufficient to heat it if you don't have a heat gun. Heat also helps the vinyl keep its new shape after it's applied if you thoroughly heat everything when you're done. Just don't overheat and melt anything!

Did you remove your center console trim pieces when you did the brushed metallic vynyl? And I noticed it says dry application on the site for the vynyl so I was wondering if you did it that way or used fluid? Thanks

In regards to undoing the plastic welds and then rewelding them, can you go into more detail about the process? I did this same thing last year but I didn’t undo any welds. Just tried to cut as best I could. Some edges aren’t great. I’d like to redo it.

So I decided to make things a little more unique in my '15 CC Big Horn by vinyl wrapping my console. I used 3Ms brushed black vinyl and complimented it with their smoldering red. The smoldering red I think looks like a very close match to the Rebel's red trim as well.

Now all I need to do is figure out how to do the door trim to match.

Anyway, here's some pics! 449f071dcde85feb911a2d47d2d9962b.jpg28ce40a4d65df6f7b889a88d1b81c184.jpg10b4d2abd25b9f48e9c42a6c665b291c.jpga8439705c08760d3ee7b3b575d4acd58.jpg

Lots of heat. If you heat the vinyl, then evenly pull it around the corners and edges. I don't have a link to one, but if you Google how to wrap mirrors, you can find some good info on wrapping compound corners and curves.

How hot am I getting this vinyl? Like really close to melting? And do I need to apply any liquid?

I've never applied liquid and you really don't need much heat. I usually just wave over it for a few seconds so it gets kinda saggy, then let it cool got a moment so it's still flexible. You kinda have to heat, stretch it over it, then repeat until it's pulled all the way across. It's kinda hard to explain.

So it's been a while since I've had time to mess with my truck, but I've made some more changes! I wanted to match the door panels to the dash, but was a little intimidated by the plastic welds holding everything together. It wasn't as bad as I thought, a little time consuming though.

So here's the results:

Did you cut off the plastic welds and then mount them again with screws?

And it looks great btw

Looks AMAZING. Always wondered why an aftermarket company hasn't come up with something to put over the top to bet rid of that stupid chrome that blind me every time the sun hits it.

Thanks! I was trying to see how other people did theirs, but it seems that it just isn't a common thing to do. I guess that might also come from the fact that to get the best results, you need to undo the melted plastic tabs to separate the pieces.

Anyway, did you do any wrapping on your door panels? I'm still trying to figure out how much of the center trim rings come apart. That's assuming you drive a 13+ with the newer style door panels.

See I tried to do my 2012 center console radio bezel piece and I just couldn’t figure out how the heck to separate the side pieces from the middle. So there is melted tabs that you have to what? Break the plastic connection where it’s melted and then when your done did you just use Jb plastic weld to bond them back together?

Technically I think you could pick up a plastic welder (like from Harbor Freight) and use it to re-create the original welds.

Im not sure but it might also be used to undo the original welds, instead of breaking/cutting/grinding them away.

I have an idea for an interior mod that would require taking off plastic welds from the door panel. Might pick up the HF welder to give it a try.

I used a high heat soldering iron that has flat/ wide tips for melting plastic to melt everything back together. I just used a drill to drill the centers out to get the pieces separated.

If you do, get the warranty on it. The tip will nearly break off after continued use once it's hot and pressure is applied to it repeatedly. It only comes with a flat triangle tip and plastic hpde? filler sticks that aren't compatible with abs plastic. But for $20 it will get the job done.

See my post here.

Thanks for the pictures it helps to see it. Any chance of a close up of the brushed Metallic top section of the doors?

... I just received a sample of the 3m 1080 Brushed Black Metallic in the hopes of covering my Laramie woodgrain door panels with something that's a closer match to the Limited dash, wheel and console I installed.

I have been on the hunt for a glossy black wrap with the lighter streaks in it similar to the following Limited style. Anyone know of anything that will be a close match???
