AV gas contains lead, that is why it is called 100 LL = Low Lead. The old 80/87 and 100/115 had a lot more lead but the 100LL was sort of a compromise.
Some of the big birds back in the day used 130/145 there was problems with fouling so a material was made available TCP Tricreyslphosphate, not nice stuff, but it worked.
I still have a can of it from the days of my flying days when someone before me used regular leaded in that plane engine. I didn't fly any big stuff but that worked on small plane engines too.

Back when you could drive a car onto a small airport and pull up to the pumps there were a few of us running 130/145 in our street cars :waytogo: :Big Laugh: Can't do that anymore at most small airports now though:(

@Wild one maybe we can sneak you a tank transport across the Berlin Wall? Cenex (CHS) is my go-to down here for ethanol free 87 or 91 octane. State of Minnesota won't allow it, so I got to go on road trips across state lines with a gas caddy to bring 87 back for my small engines. Both the Hemi, Harley and Mazda turbos all take premium octane but I generally won't take from the high octane ethanol free pump designated for off road engines. Motorcycles are included, though, so I gas up tricked up Harley there. I don't want high octane in the little motors that take 87 octane. 90+ octane won't burn as well and leaves heavy deposits.

It really sucks keeping engines running right amidst all the corporate bribery of legislators.

Made up a small batch today for my little back pack blower.
This is a 4 litre glass jug that i pour roughly 30 oz's of water into then top off with alittle over 3 litres of 94.
This batch was made out of Mobil's 94.
Bottom tape is the 30 oz's of water, the top tape is what it rises to after the ethanol settles out. After everything settles out,i get about 45 to 50 oz's of slurry mix.

I used to make my own racing gas and it's easy to negate octane loss in fuel if you have to.

Just use Enoz mothballs - They are 100% Naptha and will let you make higher octane gas if you need it.

Mind you the mothballs you use MUST BE 100% naptha or you will have some damage to your fuel system or even the engine. Be sure to read the ingredients label to make sure all you're getting are 100% naptha mothballs.

When I make a batch I'll take a full box and dump it all into a 5 gallon can of gas and let it sit for about 5 days. Then I'll slosh the can to see if I hear anything rattling on the can's bottom, if not it's ready and I use it.
The fuel once done has a nice blueish tint to it and you can smell it from the exhaust too..... Like good racing gas exhaust should smell.

That works too.
Since I'd go racing at the strip only once a week, (If that often) it wasn't a problem to make a batch and let it "Make" until it was go time. :33:

It's tough as hell to even buy E85 here Crash,as it's not very common in Canada.
I always start with either 93 or 94 when making fuel for my small engines, and when i'm done it gets a bit of Stabil tossed in with it.
I've been using Stabil for 10 years now,as my toys will sit all winter, and they get a bit of Stabil added to their tanks when i park them,i swear by the stuff :waytogo:
Wild - Hughes Petroleum on 178 St has one pump at the West Edmonton location that has Ethanol FREE premium. AFD sells ethanol free fuels, many different Octanes. Av Gasoline is Ethanol free and can be bought at small airports. Also, see the Email below from Co-op gas team here in Alberta. They have stations with no Ethanol Premium.

Good morning Dean,

Thank you for reaching out and bringing this article to our attention, as it is quite misleading with recent government regulation changes. Premium fuel in Alberta and Saskatchewan is still currently ethanol free. In British Columbia and Manitoba, it may contain up to 10% ethanol to meet provincial fuel regulations.

Co-op gas pumps will have decals stating if their fuel contains ethanol.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thank you,
Emily

Take a tour to your local Petro Canada and Shell stations,as i've yet to find ethanol free 93 or 94 down here,i haven't bought fuel at Co-op in a few years to see if their 91 has a ethanol free sticker on it.
As i just proved Mobil's 94 has ethanol in it

You're assuming everybody lives where you can buy ethanol free gas, little tidbit for you the planets alot bigger then the good ole US of A .
Maybe read the first and 4th posts a little closer ;)
Interesting, we have have alot of CO-OP branded stations on Vancouver Island and they are the only station that carries non-ethanol 91 octane gas at all of their local stores. All other octanes have ethanol. That's the only place that I know that carries it. I guess I'll be using their 91 in my snow blower this year.
