I have 2 German Shepherds. They ride in the back of the truck in harnesses. The harnesses are hooked to a strap system run across between the front lower tie downs. They are hooked to the middle of that strap and can only get their noses to the edge of the bed and no further. So for the most part they are very safe. If they were in the cab and we got in an accident they wouldn't be restrained and would probably end up through the window. This way they are restrained to the bed and would probably only hit against the bed front. Wouldn't feel good but I believe they would have a much better chance of survival hitting the bed front versus going through the windshield. Their tether is 24inches so they are up against the cab for the most part anyways. There isn't a lot of movement allowed with this setup but they LOVE it.

When I had my truck that is how my dog rode in the back there was enough room for him to get his head over the sides but that was it, no way for him to fall out that way :)

My mastiff is 185lbs we bought a dog ramp that extends out so I lean it up to my tailgate (down of course) and walk him up the ramp

Yep. I think I'm going to try the ramp and harness combo. Fingers crossed! Let's hope Tazer likes it too.

The snow pics are a few years old and both are about 10 lbs heavier now...so 110 lbs and 95 lbs respectively. The sleeping beauty is our 11 week old, 17 lbs, pup. All are Cane Corso mastiffs. I transport them either in the back of my wife's SUV or in the back seat of the truck with the floor laid flat.

I have a 190lb American Mastiff who fits just fine in the crew cab with the fold flat floor. For shorter trips to the park I had her on one side and a 75lb retriever on the other. The hardest part is that she does not jump in by herself, she puts her front paws up and I lift her back end up... She is just a lazy dog.tumblr_mu7nfsoxFI1rr7ibuo1_1280.jpgtumblr_myllsmKFkW1rr7ibuo1_1280.jpg

Lol. My mastiff will do the exact same thing. Front paws up, look back and wait for the extra push into the vehicle. Good looking dog. I need a fold flat floor! Anyone want to sell me theirs???

Two years ago I had a Tacoma and the dogs loved the cap I had on it, then last year with my Avalanche Iuploadfromtaptalk1396618793833.jpg would leave the bed cover on but lay down the back wall so they could walk around in the back or come up and see me.

So far in my Ram my dog just rides out back. On a long trip she will be in the back seat.

Had two American Bullies but now I just have my female Lab.

She is a hunt machine!!

I've got a 3 y/o great dane and she's riden in the back of my trucks for the better part of the last three years. I had fold-up seats in the back of my silverado that she would ride in some times, but the bed for the most part. Usually with a leash (because it's the law in CA). I had a 6" lift on my silverado and took a long time to train her to jump into the back, but she could do it with ease. She could jump in and out. But sometimes then, and even now with my Ram she just puts her front paws up and looks at me and I help her ass up. She's only 140 lbs.

Looks like we need a Rams Best Friend thread. I can't wait to get a dog now that I am getting settled into my house.

Ive got the same type of set up for my lab. Works well and keeps all the hair and slobber out of the cab. He doesn't really care how much he can walk around as long as he gets to go for a ride.
