I’ve ordered several new body panels for my 2013 1500 as she’s been through hell and doesn’t have a body panel without dents. Ordered both rear fenders, Front fenders, etc. Also ordered a new front plastic bumper and rear (not painted) bumper. Is it possible i can take her to a paint shop (leave good recommendations, don’t know where to go) and keep her Maximum Steel Metallic? I really love this color.

Depends how particular you are, if what you’re proposing is only painting the new panels. Seven years of wear can’t be matched by new paint, the difference will be noticeable to discerning observers.

So if you’re picky about such things, get the whole truck repainted in the original color.

Paint outcome really depends on labor spend on prep and on skill. Good work is not cheap.

So, the question is, what are you looking to spend for; a work truck, a respectable but repaired look, or a beauty?

It's a good thing that price is no object cause IMHO it' ain't going to be cheap--not even close. Base coat/clear coat materials are out of sight. Good luck I hope it turns out above your expectations!!!!

Prepare for sticker shock.

You need local recommendations because even with large chains the quality varies from one location to the next.

I restored a Jeep three years ago and after a bunch of shopping went with Maaco. Still happy with the paint years later, nobody that sees it thinks it came out of that shop. BUT- I paid them a LOT more $$$$ than the bargain prices they advertise. The painter was a Jeep enthusiast and understood what I wanted, and the shop manager knew I wanted quality, not the usual.

I relate all of this because you need to be clear with a shop when they quote you what level of quality you’re looking for. I spent more on the paint than the book value of the vehicle. Which makes zero sense from a financial perspective.

Repainting it the original color is not a problem and with the amount of repairs you are planning a complete respray is a good idea. Just be sure you are sitting down when you read the price quote.

The best way to find a shop is ask around to find people that have had good work done in your area. Ask about quality and price then go from there. Be careful of low ballers because they will try to use it as fill-in work and it could take a long time in the shop.

This is probably a good time to look however as insurance work is getting lighter although a lot of shops might be closed also.

Remember when looking for a shop do your research and find a reputable company’s that’s been in the area for years. To many times shops open up then a year later their gone along with the warranty. Paint jobs look good at first typically plus will the clear coat hold up years later.. that’s what you have to worry about .

That price is fine with me, i’ll go up to 7 at max. Sadly everything around me is closed and will be until May 13th.

Be sure to check out "completes" they have done on other cars and if possible talk to the owners and see if they have had any problems. Just for your own satisfaction you might call an automotive paint store and ask how much a gallon of color, and a gallon of clear costs just to give you an idea. That's not all the materials but it's the most costly part.

You may love your truck but 7K goes a long way toward a new one.
Paint doesn't keep a truck rolling down the road.
Mechanical costs are next then you have a pretty truck with more money poured into it.
Then it's another year older and worth less than the last.
But whatever spend how you wish.
Just be sure to balance your money around the other things in life because if you have it today you may not have it tomorrow.
I'd keep that 7K for paint in the bank but I've been around for a long time and know nothing.

I had a 2000 F150 painted for $4500, including the bed cover. The truck was turquoise and I had it painted silver. Just need to shop around and make sure the shop has a good rep. I’ve used this particular shop several times.

For the past 15+ years the high end body shops have a camera and they match the paint. They polish a small area of the body, take a reading on that spot, hook the camera to a computer and search the data base for the pigments that will be a perfect match. I worked for a company who made the cameras and the service department I managed repaired them. Exalta and PPG were two of the paint brands who used our cameras.

Maybe get it wrapped ? A full wrap probably $3-$4000 grand. A proper full paint job I’m guessing probably double that price.

Thanks!

Some places may even have a colour that matches your colour seeing as how you like it. I know a place I looked at had a metallic black that was close to the PXR paint.

If I do a wrap down the road I’m just going for matte black.

Keep us posted on your project !

yea, full wraps are like $3200 to $3500.

But an exterior full paint, no jams, $7k...yea you could probably find a shop. A suggestion, find a good local car dealership, use their bodyshop.
With slow traffic at car lots, those shops may need the business, and offer a good warranty.
A small mom and pop auto body, may not be there in a year or two.
Just sayin

I think any shop right now is feeling the pinch. I’m supporting local business by having them throw my Bils on for me! That’s how I justify it lol
