So I'm going to toss a new battery in my 2010 before the winter sets in, and was wondering:
Could I hook up my charger set on 12v/10amp to the cables before removing them and maintain all my settings while I swap?
I have a Superchips 93 tune with a few changes and am worried I'll lose that Or it'll screw it up.
Don't care about radio presets, just don't want the computer taking a hissy fit.
Duralast Gold that's in now I have no idea how old but it's reading 11.6

Thoughts?

Start your truck, swap batteries, done.
I don't think you have intelligent charge system monitoring so shouldn't be a problem.
If I'm wrong, someone will chime in and correct me.

But I'm pretty sure battery disconnect will not effect settings on your tuner.

Didnt they used to make a 9v thingy you could plug into the cigarette lighter.

I imagine using a 12v source would work.

Flashpaq offers no advice on this.
Not comfortable swapping batteries while the truck's running.

Have the battery installed where you purchase it.They'll have whatever you need to do it properly and they'll do the work free of charge

Appreciate the suggestion but no way I'm letting someone else do what I can do blindfolded.
I doubt they would have any CANBUS or Superchips knowledge either.

Are you sure you would lose those settings immediately? I thought I remembered reading somewhere computer holds its settings for about 30 minutes. That would make sense because every time you read about people disconnecting their battery to reset a CEL or some other electronic system gremlins, they always say to leave disconnected for at least 30 minutes. I’m not 100% sure though.

Concerned about the tune more than the radio.
I disabled MDS, changed tire size, rev limiter etc. and don't want to return it to stock just to swap a battery.

You won't lose your tuner settings just because you're changing the battery. You don't need to do anything especial. Fact you could leave your battery disconnected for one year and once the pcm gets juice whatever setting you wrote with your tuner are the same ones that will be stored in there.

My truck sits all winter long with the battery disconnected with no issues with the tune / radio or truck itself . I'm also in the habit of turning the master disconnect switch off anytime it's going to sit for more then a couple days, which kills battery power to the truck

Yup...I’ll bet you don’t lose any parameters if you only have a few minutes between disconnect and reconnect.

I used to use 12 gauge wire with alligator clips on either end for the swaps just so customers wouldn't lose all their radio settings etc. I never had any issues.

Think of it like this, you unplug your PC, does it automatically lose all your windows and all programs because of a loss of power? A tune is just like putting a new operating system except with a few tweaks to make MO POWA BABY. It wont disappear with loss of an electrical power source.

LOL. You think the 20 year old kid with the "Man bun" and the nose ring at Autozone is actually going to do it properly? Or even understand what properly is?
