hello all!

Long time reader, finally joined. As my name states, I am in Alaska, I need a winter vehicle as it is coming up fast. I have winter tires for my Challenger, but Im looking for something safer with 4 doors and 4x4. I found a truck on craigslist (03 5.7 quad cab) that the motor needs new rings and main bearings because it ran low on oil. It also has a large dent on the Drivers side fender from hitting a moose. She is asking $3000 for it, I think that's a little hig. What would you pay for it? If I go check it out, is there anything else I should look for that could have been damaged when it ran low on oil? She claims it currently runs but is knocking.

What part of alaska? And I'd keep looking, but keep that one in your back pocket.

Well actually this is what I've been looking for. I need/want a truck and can in no.way afford anything over a couple grand. My friend is mechanic that owes me money, and even has a hemi motor he's willing to trade me for the debt that just needs a couple of pushrods.

I am in Fairbanks. Born and raised!

What brought you up here? Going back to anchorage again? Im about 400 miles north of there. Good place to visit and the truck in question is a few hours before you get to anchorage. Sounds like a road trip!

Hard to say really, it sounds like a good deal, but if you only have a couple grand, what about an older 4x4 truck? Like 70s-80s

I need 4 doors as I have 2 small kids. I was looking atthe later 90's models but If I am paying the money for it, I want the bigger back seat and slightly better mpg and power that the hemishave. Also, like I said earlier I have a hemi at my disposal so I need something it easily fits into and plays nice with.

That's Alaska. Land of the midnight sun. come up in the winter, In December, the sun is only up for about 4 hours. Less if your further north. Match that with the -50 temp and ice fog and its a regular paradise up here lol

I really do like Alaska. It's so cool up there, but back to topic, if you feel right about it, and your buddy owes you, do it.
