I am one of the lucky ones that had to tear my dash out to replace my evaporator at about 85k miles on my 2013, I bought the truck with 50k on it and immediately added the filter but it must have been too late as it failed. When I took the evaporator out it was really clogged with crap and had corroded as well which caused the leak. While it was apart I cleaned everything I could get to and it was filthy and smelled pretty bad. Once it was back together, WOW what a difference, no smell, much more airflow, no weird whistling noises. I did the filter mod to my current 2015 as soon as I got it and cleaned the evaporator as well.

My 2012 Bighorn doesnt have one either-Ive seen videos on how to cut out to install one and then forgot all about it till now.
If I dont have the filter then i assume that the air and crud just blows through right-I shouldnt have to worry about any build up on condensor or anything else if there is no filter-am i correct?

What can happen is the crud that blow through the coil can plug it up or at least get it dirty ,so you may get less cooling or heating ! A lot depends on how dusty your area is !You will see the crud at your first CAF change ! As mentioned we did run cars for years with out them for years , But I prefer not to take the chance of gumming up the coils ! I wonder if the poster who said they are a scam thinks the oil filters are a scam lol but think he just likes to stir the pot lol

WOW! I just changed it and the air flow is great.

I thought with a 2500 being up so high it wouldn't get very dirty.

I can't believe they don't come from the factory with one.

Just replaced mine again a couple days ago at 38,500. I was replacing it every 12K but ended up going like 18K this time and it was still pretty clean.

I updated my '14 to accept cabin filters. The kit I got contained an OEM filter. It was junk IMHO. The pleats could pinch in on the sides. So I got a Purolator Boss filter. Much better design.

K&N makes a washable one, VF2013. I have had mine for 6 years now and it is holding up very well. Money well spent.
