I am one of the lucky ones that had to tear my dash out to replace my evaporator at about 85k miles on my 2013, I bought the truck with 50k on it and immediately added the filter but it must have been too late as it failed. When I took the evaporator out it was really clogged with crap and had corroded as well which caused the leak. While it was apart I cleaned everything I could get to and it was filthy and smelled pretty bad. Once it was back together, WOW what a difference, no smell, much more airflow, no weird whistling noises. I did the filter mod to my current 2015 as soon as I got it and cleaned the evaporator as well.
