Don’t buy anything from “lombeephre” at eBay! I bought a new UAS/UAQ screen months ago and it delaminated (bubbles on screen). He won’t exchange it and says he doesn’t recognize my purchase. I’m out $200 on that one. Ebay and PayPal suck right now with no customer service, thanks to Covid19, so you are on your own! Screen savers is great! They sent me a few screens and called me later to see if everything was okay.

Just bought a UAQ off ebay got lucky for $600ish. Not sure yet what software version its running but i'm sure it needs an updated file. Is there a link somewhere on the forum to grab these files? When i try to download the newest firmware online it says its already up-to-date.

Ok, I started reading. A lot of good info up front but then got into a bunch of questions mostly about older models. I have a 2018 Ram 1500 currently, but am considering a trade to a 2017 Ram 2500. I really like having apple carplay, so this thread is interesting to me.

So I need to swap the radio unit, the media hub, and a harness, correct? No OBD flash required - just plug & play after swapping all of those?

It depends upon how the truck you get is equipped. You may need a HVAC module, HVAC harness, and HVAC bezel as well.

^^^ what he said
If I'm not mistaken the HVAC modules used on the 1500 vs the 2500 are different. There is a list of suggested modules for different year/model trucks on this forum .. somewhere.

It's all listed or linked in the first 5-6 posts.

@patriot07 (& others) ... Ultimately it will depend on the trim level/radio setup of the 17 truck you get and what you will need... it can be done if planned correctly.

There's a reason, why I don't have a click/buy now website for this because I often need to talk to the customer and figure out exactly what they need to get everything setup/working correctly the first time for the particular truck setup they have.

Easiest to more involved :

- 17+ with factory 8.4 and Dual Zone ATC.
(swap radio, hub and hub harness. No programming changes)

- 17+ w/factory 8.4 & Single Zone MTC.
(Swap above, & add Single Zone ATC wiring, sensors & programming)

-------------------

- 17+ w/factory Ra2/5.0 BT/handsfree calling/mics in headliner.
(swap radio/bezel, hub, hub harness, conversion harness w/ATC & sensors, 18 module)

-------------------

- 17+ base with RA1/3.0/ * NO MICs in headliner/No Handsfree BT calling.
(swap radio/bezel, hub, hub harness, conversion harness w/ATC & sensors, 18 module ....
... * Add mic Reroute for 13-16 mirror with mics support 13-16/13-16 Mopar Mirror harness & Mirror with Mics, or *possibly future headliner mics/harness, Camera reroute harness if BuCam display on mirror )

-------------------

Note:
- 2500/3500's also require fan/resistor conversion harness and 7spd fan resistor.
(Our fan resistor harness is plug n play... No connectors to re-pin)

- 14+ 1500's (only) also require part 2 ATC humidity sensor/harness to complete Single Zone ATC.

- Single Zone ATC requires BCM programming changes using AlfaOBD or OBDgenie. (Dealer can't do it).

- 2013-16 trucks won't require mic reroute, since Mopar mirror harness & mirror with mics cam be purchased/installed directly.

* 18 HVAC module (vs 13-17)

* 14-18 ram 1500's (& 19+ Classic) have a variable displacement compressor (typ. associated with the 7 speed fan)
>> 14-17's w/RAx = 68268186Ax HVAC module (ie RA4 Radio)
>> 18/19's w/UAx = 68366552AA HVAC module (ie UAQ Radio)

* 13-18 ram 2500/3500's (& 13 Ram1500) have a fixed displacement compressor (typ. associated with the 4 speed fan)
>> 14-17's w/RAx = 68105017Ax HVAC module (ie RA4 Radio)
>> 18/19's w/UAx = 68366553AA HVAC module (ie UAQ Radio)

& the current thinking is to match the HVAC module to the 8.4 radio year, but there have been several HVAC Blend/Temperature issues with the UAx radio upgrade that are fixed with the ATC Mod.

The 2018 Ram 1500 is a Big Horn, and the 2017 Ram 2500 is a Lone Star, which I think are the same thing except the Lone Star is sold primarily in TX/OK. Both have heated seats and steering wheel. Dash looks the exact same.

Both also have dual zone climate control.

Let me ask this - if I got the dealer (they are not a CJDR dealer - just a used car lot only) to let me swap the radios, would everything work in both except I'd still need to add the media hub and adapter harness in my 2017?

These are pictures of the actual trucks.

If you put that 2017 RA3 ? (no nav. Or RA4) in that 2018 truck... It will likely have a service cellular system error message, and/or it 'may' have AC temperature blend door issues (full hot or full cold only) with the existing 18 HVAC module. (My 18 Laramie has temp issue when testing 13-17 RAx radios unless I swap in a 13-17 module)

What do you mean "...unless I swap in a 13-17 module"?

Are you talking about the usb/aux ports?

No, there is the aforementioned HVAC module for 8.4 inch radios that is an interface between the radio, HVAC bezel and the actual HVAC system. That is what @Mpgrimm2 is referring to...

Edit - I'm dumb. He (and you) was responding to my question about the 17 radio in the 18. The 18 radio in the 17 should be fine with just the USB hub & harness, correct?

You're saying that to use the 17 radio in the 18, I'd need to swap HVAC modules?

Can I swap HVAC modules between the 2017 2500 & 2018 1500, or do I need a 2017 HVAC module from a 1500?

Gotcha, I think that explains everything I wanted to know. So the HVAC units aren't backward-compatible. But it does appear they're forward-compatible?

By that, I mean that my 2018 Ram 1500 HVAC module won't work with a 2017 radio, but my 2017 Ram 2500 HVAC module (with dual zone climate control) should work fine with a new 8.4 4C unit (UAx)?

Search car-part.com several times a day. When you find one at a good price, do not hesitate, buy it. Infotainment does the same thing. They buy used radios from the wrecking yards, wipe them down and sell them as "refurbished". Unfortunately they have driven up the price of the used radios but some yards still sell them at a good price. You have to be QUICK.

Once you have a radio, PM Mike (MPGrimm2) and he will get in touch with you to customize a kit for a trouble-free install. DON'T buy harnesses, kits, etc from Infotainment. They don't customize them for your truck and many of their customers come to this forum for help because they can't get timely support from them. Even though they are not his customers, Mike tries to help get their radio working and makes nothing for his effort. BUY from Mike, you will be a happy camper and support a forum vendor who takes care of his customers.
