I have a nearly stock 02 ram with a 5.9l 360 that needs a power upgrade. I want this truck to be a badass mopar. It came with a magnaflow catback exhaust that has been beat up over the years. I'm thinking about adding these parts: new magnaflow thunder series catback, jba shorty headers, Nitrous express nos kit, spectra intake with Airaid thottlebody spacer, And a programmer. Does anyone have any input on what else I should get? This is also a budget build. Can anyone tell be how much hp I could get?

A big NO on the throttle body spacer. I would build up the internals if you plan on adding NOS to it.

Top 3 mods that should be done first, besides general maintenance stuff.
1. Intake (Out vendor 3rd Strike Performance is actaully running a group buy sale on intakes right now)
2. Exhaust (looks like a good setup you have choosen)
3. Programmer (I would recommend a Superchips)

What Luke said. The TB spacer is a waste of money

What should I do to the internals? New camshaft or heads?

How bout a lower end kit! Get some pistons and rods that can handle the extra juice!

If you want badass moose then what's your budget is a good question. To make an over the top build stroke that beast and custom tune and you will have one awesome machine!! But of short on cash the above mods are a good start. For about 2-3k you can build the top end pretty stout and get good performance. But your mpgs will probably suffer.

i have close to 4k just in my top end. it takes a good bit to make these fat trucks get up and go. just now getting it to run faster than my stock hemi durango. but it does sound better and revs alot quicker.

if you want a fast truck, you need to start with a good 408 stroker motor.

Do I really need a bottom end setup? I thought that nos just cooled the incoming air to get more air in.

Talon will know more on the heads. Most guys go to a 2.02 valve on new heads plus a can and an intake. Nos does more than cool the air. Its combistable fuel under pressure that will raise cylinder temps and make a bigger explosion. Stock parts normally can't take a big shot of Nos.

i am using the eq heads. iron. 2.02's. i also sent mine to a shop and had them ported, valve job, and cc'd. the race shop was very impressed with them for a lower buck head. they were nice and true. no need for milling. i didnt want to up my compression because i was planning on a super at the time.(which i have now. just not installed yet)so i didnt want them milled anyway. i should have went with alum ones. they get rid of the heat better.alum are better for a boosted motor.

it all depends on what you are gonna do with your truck. mine is not a daily driver nor a tow vehicle. it took me months of research and thought before i started on mine.

i wouldnt do anymore than a 100shot on a stock bottom end.wish i would have went with a stroker now. but my motor only has 68k on it now and i could still see the cross hatches in my cylinder walls.

that is a nice kit that islacker linked to from hughes.

Would a 50 or 75 shot of nos hurt? if not what's the best setup(connected to air intake or a throttle body spacer....)?

Being a camaro/mustang guy im really not sure what stock internals on these trucks can handle, but i can tell you that a dry kit would be preferred. And also that forgetting that tb spacer is sound advice. There is more to it than just throwing a spray kit on your engine, you MUST have a tune done. No2 is a "semi" combustible gas that as afore mentioned spikes the compression ratio, but under compression and heat will lose a portion of the oxygen molecules thus leaning out the a/f ratio. Also timing has to be slightly retarded. Best of luck.

I usually don't comment on these posts...I usually smile go mmmhmmm and walk away.
But if you really want to make a heavy *** truck into a bad *** mopar, its gonna take some serious money.
And it will look and sound bad....but not be that fast. A truck weighs too much, has all the weight in the wrong places, and almost nothing for areodynamics.
But that doesn't mean you can't build a stroker with a blower and have some real WOW factor when you pop the hood.
Just choose your "battles" wisely.
