Did you ever get to the bottom of the oil pressure issue on Redtruck?

No, I'm afraid I have a major issue to contend with. But at least now I can pull it apart without pressure. No pun intended....

Appreciate the good thoughts, I was a little panicky without a backup vehicle and winter coming, but now it's all good I just got to get my lazy a$$ focused on doing it.

Messed with the cold idle speed. Idles at 1200rpm at half choke on the bottom notch of the fast idle cam. (at least I think it's the bottom notch)

Hopefully that should be sufficient to make it easier to idle and warm up this winter and not do so much of the cammed idle/coal rolling thing

Pulled off the carb to rebuild it and then completely lost all ambition. Maybe I'll get to it some evening this week.

Time for a ThermoQuad.

:hidesbehindsofa:
My garage isn't that cold so I have no excuse lol. It is a luxury to have a truck that doesn't need to be put back together and running before work on Monday morning.
Aww, that's no fun, that's how Crazzzzzzzzzy get's so much stuff done quickly.

Installed my rebuilt Quadrajet carb on the truck and it ran OK but wouldn't ilde. Connected the rather LARGE vacuum hose that I had forgotten on the back of the carb and now it runs great. :roflsquared:

Still a few more things I'd like to do before I park it for the winter.

Probably the PCV hose, that'll cause it to run like crap. :D

Installed the driveshaft support bearing a couple weeks ago and had a stiff u joint. Replaced the u joints today so I now have a fresh driveshaft. Drained and cleaned out the rearend housing a couple days ago. This actually has made a big reduction in gear noise. Installed a notched harmonic balancer, which took a little more than I first thought it would. Had to remove the fan to get at the bolts. Everything is blocked from below.

I would replace the bearings but don't have a spreader. Will have to see what and where to get something I can use. Might just take it to a shop. The soup I drained out of the rear end was the main source of gear noise. There is almost no noise now.

i have not even touched the axles on either of my trucks since i got them other than making sure they were topped up. i want to paint the shell logo on my 81's diff cover. i think it would suit the shape. i even got new diff cover gaskets for both my vehicles for whenever i get around to it.

Mine had some red RTV used to seal the cover, but the fluid had water in it. I first checked it was a qt low. But at that time I didn't know the condition of the fluid. My truck has been out of service for more than a few years I think.

Yeah, I guess getting water in there would ruin things. Looks like a little rust on the gears.

Were there timing marks on the original balancer?

a diesel is not timed like a gas engine so there is no timing marks on the harmonic balancer.
