The 2500 has a locked TPMS threshold. The 3500 has TPMS but doesn't have the warning system.

well your guys got screwed for no reason at all. why in the Hell?

2500 gets TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) with display and alert
3500 gets TPIS (tire pressure information system) without alert

That's straight from the buyers guide lol

What do you mean by "with display"?.. Reason I ask is my truck displays the tire pressure for all four.

It also displayed the TPMS screen at start up when it detects a tire outside the threshold with a red background instead of white st the offending tire(s). You will have to navigate away from it. If you **** it off on a different screen, upon restart it will go back to the TPMS screen unless the tires have been inflated to 80psi. 79 won't do.

I installed larger tires and wheels on my 3500 and they do not have TPMS. Currently I have a message that shows up on start up, and if you open it, it says to check tire pressure. There are no warnings or lights on. If I had the 2500, my dealer would not sell the tires without the TPMS.

I test drove a 2500 before ordering my 3500, and the 3500 is a little more of a harsh ride but not that different.

That is odd, looking at the 2016 Minnesota brackets, it says a 10k GVWR truck like the 2500 would be lower than a 11k GVWR truck like the 3500. The DMV also stated that the taxes is based on the value of your vehicle.

https://dps.mn.gov/divisions/dvs/forms-documents/Documents/Tax_Manual_CalendarYear2016.pdf

I think you may be just looking at the value chart (where a $10K vehicle does have less expensive tabs than an $11K one). Trucks with a "nominal rated carrying capacity greater than three-fourths ton" (or over 10,000Lbs gross weight) end up being taxed on the gross weight chart instead which is much less expensive. https://www.revisor.mn.gov/statutes/?id=168.013

I can't speak directly to the Ram leaf (3500) vs coil (2500) but I know when moving from 2006 Chevy leaf springs to my 2014 Hemi 2500 coils I was super happy. The ride is stiff but less harsh as a daily driver. While towing the difference was amazing. The coils are just so much more fluid and consistent. Where the leafs would bounce and jar me around, the coils just track smoothly. It's now been 2+ years since I made the switch so my memory is fading. With how great the coils are I'd have a hard time going back to leaf springs. Even if upgrading to a diesel I'd likely just get the 2500 with the coils and supplement with airbags to make up the difference. Screw the door sticker police :favorites13:

id rather deal with a little stiffer ride for the higher pay load VS the "door sticker police" If I get in an accident while towing overloaded. thats a BIG deal.

That depends on where you are. In many states like Texas, the sticker on the door means nothing. It is the GVWR that your registered for and your GAWR weight that is law. Many people think that the police can enforce what a manufacturer suggests, but that is not the case.

good to know. thanks for sharing.

if my truck were a 2500 the rear GAWR is still 1000 LBS less.

Registration......very solid point right there

This is a very legitimate consideration;

I believe in MA any vehicle with dual rear wheels needs to be registered commercial and that will bump all your costs up as well as subject you to a commercial inspection etc. annually. Any single rear wheel truck with a GVW > or = to 10K lbs also must be registered commerical.

My daily driver has been a Chevy 3500 Crew Cab Dually 4x4 since 1990. Ive had 7 of them. 90-92-94-98-02-05-09....This 2015 Ram 2500 is the WORST riding truck ive ever owned. The ride quality doesn't get better until the salt spreader and 2000# of salt are in the bed....

I have to agree with shoot2kill a little bit. IMO, the coils work great with some weight and/or aired down tires. When the rear tires are aired up to not get a TPMS warning the ride is jittery.

another thing to consider is how much higher is the payload on the brand new RAM vs the older chevys. that will absolutely call for stiffer springs and ride.

I run my rear tires at 80-82psi and with no weight in the rear other than the ARE cap and maybe 100lbs of misc gear, it rides like I expect a "3/4 ton" rig. Of course I came from F250s with leafs and comparatively speaking this thing rides very nicely. But on a highway that looks like it has been carpet bombed you will get bounced around.

The Sierra/Silverado HDs are IFS(Independent Front Suspension) versus the SFA(Solid Front Axle) design of Ram HDs. They both have their plus and minuses, but one of the pluses of the IFS is its smoother ride compared to SFA. If the Ram 2500 HDs were IFS and rear coil then there is no doubt it would ride smother than the GM twins, but it won't get there with just an SFA and rear coils set up.

Although, I would rather have the plus side of an SFA than the smoother ride of an IFS.

I can say that the 2500 hemi, 3500 cummins SRW and 3500 cummins DRW I have experience with all ride different. The DRW is a 2012 so might be different besides the DRW than the 2013+. You can feel the weight in the nose. The 2500 with aired up tires feels like it skips over joints and cracks, aka jittery. The 3500 diesels ride a little rougher, but the ability to air down without warnings helps.
