Heres one I use all the time. Its special past in cs5.
Its very simple technique that I use all the time.
First I use my polygonal lasso tool-
Then under edit I use copy-
Then under edit- "special past" and "past in place"
And after unselecting the other layer you can see your selection is there-
You can also duplicate the same layer in the same location under layer then duplicate layer.
I'll try and post up tips but you are all welcome to post tips also- so don't be shy.
