So I'll try to keep this short as I can. After picking up our travel trailer and testing it on a long drive I'm thinking a 3/4 ton may be a better choice for us. Our 1500 can handle the load and do it legally but I think I'd like the extra payload and stability.

Now I bought my 1500 CC, 4x4 Lonestar, 5.7 8 spd in April and I love it. I believe I got a good deal on it but in any of your opinions think it's a bad idea to sell after owning it less than 6 months. I don't need a 3/4 but I'd like it and we are moving in the spring possibly across country so we'll be towing the TT and also have a 6 x 10 motorcycle hauler. I can wait until spring if it makes any difference or just keep the 1500.

Now for the dollars and cents. Paid about $35k for the truck and owe about $28 k. Kbb and nada say private sale is in the mid $35k range. Now I don't believe that I would get close to $35 but I'd sure ask it at first. So what do you think its really worth? We live in south Texas the truck is spotless with 5k miles basically brand new.

And I don't want to trade it in because I would buy a gas 3/4 ton that's a little older to save some $$ and realize I don't need a fancy truck like the Lonestar for what we use it for.

curious what you guys think. Thanks

why dont you beleive you can get close to blue book? Its almost brand new, in perfect condition and has less than 1000 miles per month ( which is pretty good ). Ask high blue book and see what happens.

What was the sticker?
What did you pay before tax?

i guess the best way would be search Craigslist for used 20114's ( probably not mnay of them ), and see what others are asking and base it off that....

So sticker was $44,700.
Had a trade but my price for the truck before the trade and after tax was around $35,800.
South Texas is pretty bad with used trucks, there are a lot of them but they are whooped pretty hard down here. Most get 20-40k miles a year in the oil fields or ranches and not many are left stock, which to me is more desirable to find a stock truck. Swirled out and faded paint, scratches and dents everywhere, usually bald mud terrain sand stupid huge steel rusted bumpers on a 1-2 yr old truck is what's around here, and people still want $35-45k for them. So hopefully my truck would be good for $35 but I don't understand the mentality of buys down here with our used market.

First of all, you are already a year model behind with the 2014 and fixing to be two year models behind when the 2016 come in full swing.

Not saying anything is impossible but getting anywhere near KBB or NADA private sale numbers is gonna be a tough nut.

I lived in South Texas for 15 years and know what you are up against. Everybody and their dog has a truck and you are gonna have to make yours shine in some way as you are competition with the end of year incentives for new vs. a almost two model year old truck.

You can buy a new 15 for that price. I would say if you got 30 out of it that would be damn good.

Yea that's what I was thinking 35 would be what I paid for it with 0 miles on it 5 months ago and new ones are going to be the same deal. I think it would be smart to keep er' for at least the next 6 months and see where we are at

Particularly at this time of year when the dealers still have 15's on the lot that they are discounting $10-$12000, it going to be tough. You might do better to wait till later in the year when most all the 15's are gone and the deep discounts are over. Never hurts to advertise it though, not only in the paper but on Craig's list and on the truck forums. Good luck

I would keep it for any less than $32k just because right now I don't have to sell it, it will work for what we need for not

Are you trying to tandem tow the TT and the cargo trailer? If you think the Lonestar is fancy you aughta sniff the inside of a Laramie.

No tandem for the trailers. Each towed separately. MC trailer loaded is only like 3k lbs at the most. Camper loaded is like 6500. Last trip u was just wishing for a little more truck but I think I'll hang on to it for awhile longer

Smart move. No reason your truck can't handle that load. Do you have a good WDH setup? Better to hang on to it as Chrysler products take more of a hit in the first two years, then level out by four. At least that's what I've found.......so I try to keep them at least 3 years to reduce the hit.

If you have done so already ditch the OEM tires and go with a higher load rated tire. Will give a much more comfortable towing experience.

I just traded in my 46k sticker big horn with 12k miles 2014 and got just over $31,000 which was very good. If you get anything close to 30 you are doing good

Isn't the lonestar more premium than the laramie? Nm I was thinking of the longhorn.

Still thinking of "downgrading" looking at putting her up for private sale for $33,500 is what I'd like to get so we'll see.

Nooooo! Start high, take lower. Anyone smart enough is going to negotiate you down. Doesn't sound like you must sell at this point and is more of a 'want' to sell. If you list high and don't get the right offers then keep for a later sale.

I say start 2-3k high of what you would accept. But my true advice is to take it to carmax and get a free estimate then you can see what playing field you are in. Typically deallers will give you 4-5k less than what they can sell it for making private party about 2k more than trade. If they offer you 31 on trade you know 33 ish is your private party number. My .02 hope it helps.

i have to agree 35k seems way too high for a truck that will be "2 years" old as '16 are starting to arrive. now you should be able to get closer to 30 for your trade. i just traded in my '13 outdoorsman v6 crew cab with 28k miles and was able to get 27k trade in for mine. i purchased a '15 laramie for 35k that stickered for 49.9

your truck should not have a problem towing 6-7K lbs. I would keep the truck if I were you. get some air bags, and E-rated tires... Those should help give you more confidence while towing that same weight.
