I have a 2013 Hemi 2500. I am thinking about trading it for a new Cummins 2500. I only tow a 6000 pound trailer. Is it worth the trade? I want to pay off a truck and keep it.

I haven't ever driven a hemi 2500. I driven lots of Cummins 2500 & 3500's. I know the new Cummins have a ton of emissions stuff on them. Grandpa had it cut off his 2007 3500 & tuned yesterday. That's not an option with the new ones yet. If you like engine & performance mods the hemi is probably the best bet. The 6.7 Cummins are some awesome engines though. They definitely last longer.

rustydagger - Touches upon a good point. Which is how long to you plan on keeping the truck? If you are planning a number of years the Cummins engine would be a wise choice if not stick with the Hemi.

Sounds like you want it. Just get one. The 13+ CTD using DEF from what I've heard is 20+ mpg.

the cummins will pull that effortlessly and will last longer plus you will get the $$ back in resale. the emissions stuff on the 13+ cummins is not an issue and the exhaust brake is much better.

20+mpg???? my truck has yet to see anywhere close to that. more like 16-17 mpg consistently towing or not.

I decided to keep what I have. I would like to get a truck paid off and keep it a while. I am just nervous about going to the new diesel.

could look into a 2011 / 2012 without that DEF... then delete it for consistant reliable power for a long time to come. I'll be shopping around for a 2012 possibly in summer of 15'. The only reason I say 2012 is cause its one less emission bs to have deleted.

I'm not a diesel expert, but who doesnt love a deleted cummins and 800 WTQ or more at your foot lol

I've never driven a Cummins. I do enjoy driving my Hemi though as it sounds mean and pulls what I have really well. I am going to add some upgrades and make my ride look better.

Cummins is the best engine made ever, drove one in a Ram and in many rigs as well. However, IMO it isn't worth the hit you'll take. Drive it a while and get your money out of it, who knows what advancements newer trucks will have. Just look at the last 5 years! Also, diesel costs a lot more then gas right now, at least that is what it is like locally to me.

financially, no. your going to take a big hit on your trade, plus the added cost of diesel. it will take years before you hit the break even point. if all you tow is a 6000lb trailer, you technically dont even need a 2500. i say keep what you have.
