I bought a 2015 Power Wagon Laramie a few months ago. The truck is beautiful and I have only been off road once. Right now I am concerned with the MPG. I knew going into it I wasn't going to get good mileage, but I am getting between 8-10mpg on the street with a light foot. Ultimately I want to upgrade to 35's with a very small lift. I am starting to wonder if I should trade it in for a cummins. I hear 14-15mpg on the street is pretty normal. I'd ultimately add a Carli Lift and at least 35's. Any thoughts? Thank you!

Sounds about right for a new 6.4.... They take a while to settle in, it'll get better. But you've also got a lot of extra weight being a PW. My Mega gets 11-12 being nice to it.

8-10 for a new 6.4? That's crazy...I'm lifted on 37's and get 12-13 avg.

I have a 15 PW with 35s. No lift or other mods. I'm getting around 13 back and forth to work fairly easy on the throttle. Longer two lane 55 mph drives I can hit 14. Highway I'm still at 13 ish.

I have about 3000 miles right now.

Wow. That is not bad. Is there much highway driving? Is your truck lifted?

My commute has no highway. Two lane roads with a handful of stops here and there. That's about 13.

Highway barely hits 13 if I set the cruise around 70 ish. Much faster and the mpg drops to 12.5 or so.

On a trip earlier this week, I did about 600 miles round trip mostly two lane 55 mph roads. I wasn't gentle but was hard on the throttle either. I had about 13.5 mpg.

No lift. 35 inch Toyo MTs. It does have a tonneau cover but I didn't hardly see any difference in my fuel economy when I installed it.

Point is the truck is heavy and apparently not very aero efficient so higher speeds and accelerating from a stop aren't it's friends. 55 mph seems pretty decent. I just ordered an AEM Dryflow airfilter for it. Mostly because it's reusable / washable but supposedly guys are seeing 1 or 2 mpg gain too. I am doubtful but any bit will help.

Mine started to improve around 3500 miles but seems to be still improving with respects to highway miles. Mixed driving has settled in at around 14.5 mpg.

Good rule of thumb I've always heard is you loose 1 mpg for every inch of lift.

As for the CTD, have they ever got them 6.7L's to get decent mileage? had a 07 on the ranch in a megacab short bed that was lucky to see 12mpg put a H&S dpf and egr delete on i and it saw 15-16 but still was low compared to my 5.9L

But I'm a big fan and will suggest a CARLI CTD anyday. I miss my 07 5.9L with all the carli parts up front. best riding pickup I've ever had.

My 2013 2500 Mega Cab Cummins 4x4 got better mileage than a Power Wagon! However, it had 3.42 gears and 35's. I could hit 21 mpg highway and usually around 14-15 in town with heavy traffic and a lot of red lights.

The gas mileage on my 15 outdoorsmans with the 6.4 was about 8-10mpg the two weeks i had it. I also have 4.10 gears. Now, with 1200 miles, it's averaging 12mpg city.

I dunno how you guys are getting over 13mpg... Lol
My mega will do 14 hand cal'd on looong highway runs. But mixed driving it barely goes over 12.4mpg. funny thing is, I got 12.3 pulling my 6k pound 24' wakeboard boat from Austin back to conroe! These 6.4's love to work!

Thats a healthy VP cummins...

as for fuel mileage of gas vs diesel, diesel will always win. as for buying a power wagon vs diesel its a little tougher...

the way I look at it is if the OP can afford a diesel and knows about Carli he can afford to build a diesel version of the power wagon and have a diesel on carli ride with lockers installed and winch and out perform that power wagon get better fuel mileage and tow better all at the same time.
But again I'm a little bias to Diesels and Carli from previous trucks Ive built on the farm

That's quite the statement. Assuming similar trim levels, a diesel is about 5k more than a PW. Add even a lower end Charlie and you adding 3k. Winch is 1500 on the low end before you mount it. Due to the intercooler you'd likely have toadd a full bumper so there is another 2500. Selectable lockers are about 1 to 1200 each plus another 800 to 1000 install.

So now you're pushing 15 to 16k more than a Power Wagon with pretty much every warranty voided. Not to mention, in use, that heavy diesel would be felt up there but I'm sure the Carli would help. It would be a cool truck but it's not exactly a fair comparison either.

I just bought my PW a few weeks ago. I went back and forth about buying a diesel and doing the above. It's just out of the reach cost wise though. Not to mention, usually diesel is more expensive in my area negating any mpg savings and there is more maintainance.
