The truck I just purchased not too long ago needs tires. It has the stock Good Years with 26,000 miles and they are garbage. They are crap tires.

Driving home in the rain today, it hydroplaned and my rear end kicked out and I was going sideways down the highway and almost hit the concrete median. I was able to save it thankfully.

I wanted to do a lift with rims and tires, but since I need tires this fast, I doubt that will happen.

Do I just replace the stock's with the same size tire?
Do I go up a tire size? (275/65r20?) (305/55r20?)
Install a lift kit and put on some bigger tires?
Install Bilstein 5100's and install bigger tires?

What brand tire? I see many people talking about the Nitto Terra Grapplers G2's

I just want a good tire that performs well on sand, water and snow.

Their are so many options and I've done so much reading that I just go in circles.

Any tips/advice/help you would have would be awesome!

Thanks

Wish I could offer some useful info, but I'm in a similar boat when it comes to choosing a tire.
But on a side note. Glad you where able to save her and make it home.

I bought my truck used also. It was due for shocks so I got some Bilstein 5100's I wanted to take out some of the rake out, I think I only went one notch above halfway on the front shocks. I have been happy with the BFG ko2 but I might try something different when they wear out, I stayed with the stock size because I didn't want to lose any towing power by going to a bigger tire

Depending on what you decide as far as leave it stock, level or lift it will help you decide on what size tire to get. But take a look at the Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs. I dropped to a 17" wheel and went with 315/70/17. I've got about 30k on mine and they still have plenty of tread left. Ill be getting another set when these are done.

I've had Cooper AT3, MasterCraft Courser AXT, and Nitto G2.

Cooper AT3 - good wet traction, wear fast at first and then even out. I got 50k + out of these rotating every 5,000.

Mastercraft Courser - basically the same as the AT3 but they didn't seem to have the same wet weather traction to me. Same mileage as above.

Nitto G2 - I really liked this tire for wet weather and mud. I had over 35k miles on them and they looked new when I traded the truck. Same rotation as above.

I'm leaning toward the Falken Wildpeak AT3W for my next set. Great discounts with Tread Lightly membership. $100 rebate from Falken and $50 discount from discount tire.

I went to my tire dealer who is a personal friend to order Cooper AT3s. He told me about the Hercules AT2, made by Cooper and a copy of the Cooper AT3 but a lot less money and come with road hazard warranty. So that's what I got and so far I've been impressed and satisfied. They are quiet, excellent in rain or wet conditions and off road. I have not tried them in snow or mud. Same size and rating as the 20" OEM Goodyears.

Several trucking friends have commented on them being "rugged looking". Tires are a tough call as there are so many brands and designs. Go with what grabs your fancy, how they will be used and what you can afford as they are all fairly decent these days.

I say it in every thread about tires. BFG All Terrain KO or KO2 based on what is available KO is probably not available anymore. I love them both. They get you great wear, great traction and give the truck and you the confidence you should have when you buy it but don't because of the crapyears. Also you can get the KO in both a 33 and 34 for similar prices. Stock of 275/60R20 and 275/65R20. I have the 65 KO2 and love them. Okay good luck.

Im a fan of toyo open country. I ran the AT2s 275/65R20 got 75,000km out of them. I got new tires just befor winter just to be safe and I'm sure glad I did. I stuck to the Toyo open country AT2s but went with a slightly bigger size to get the extreme version. Pretty much little wider and deeper tread and a bit more side wall. I have 295/65R20 on now I like the way it looks with the bit bigger size. They are a little bit noisy but I listen to my music fairly loud so it drowns out the noise. Also get a little bit of rubbing when I turn hard left even with a levelling kit

I had Falkens on a 1/2 ton in 2013. They looked good at first. After 20k miles they wore like crap and had horrible road noise.

Tires

I just posted some pics of the new tires im running. I ran the 265s when I bought it and to replace I bought a little bigger but not much. 33/12.5/R20 is the best looking to me. No problem fitting without a lift. Looks really good you can look at my profile to see. Hope this helps! You can go with a cheaper brand like Gladiator MTs can find them on Craigslist for around 750 I got my Atturos for 850. Looks

Mine is pretty close. I have the Bilstein HD shock it allows you to set them as standard or TRX/ Outdoorsman. Mine are set to Outdoorsman height. I will be getting the Bilstein 5100 next time around. I also have the TuffTruck replacement coils that are variable rate as load increases. For good measure I have the airlift 1000's in there too.

Sorry guys, I just seen these responses. Never received a notification of a new reply.

All great information and I'm still researching more tire brands and suspension systems.

I'm not sure yet if I will just buy tires for now or purchase some rims and tires and go with a little lift.

I could always buy just tires now and when I get the lift and new wheels and tires installed, sell my stock ones with good tires on them.

I forgot to post a pic of the truck and tire. I just took 2 really quick pictures.

I hated the stock tires from the get go. The wife drove the truck in the rain, and she walked in the door, and said your tires are awful and dangerous. So I leveled the truck, and put on G2's. They handled the snow over the winter, and the rain this spring with out issue. I did go up a size 275/65r/20, I don't think the stock tires had more than 3k on them. I can't speak about the other brands mentioned above as I have never ran them, but I'm very happy with the G2's.

After 47K I replaced the OEM Goodyears with General Grabber HTS 60 and so far very happy with them.
