So this may be a stupid question, but do the brake lights on a 4th gen come on when the key is off?? Just noticed on my truck that no key, no lights.

Kind of confusing, but what do you mean? The key is ON (running or just in the on position) with lights on or just turning them on without the key?

If I step on the brake pedal with no key in the ignition, I don't have any brake lights. With the key in acc or on, they work as normal.

Yes mine is the same way! They're designed to work that way

That's weird, never seen that. My brake pedal/lights are always "hot" (meaning they come on when I step on it. Anybody else with a 4th gen you know that has that issue?

I know the newer GM trucks work like this, wasn't sure about the RAMs. I was changing bulbs and went to test them and I had no light! I guess I just never noticed it before.

I wonder if it's only 2010s then. I always thought they worked with or without the key.

My 2014 will light up regardless of the key being inserted or the truck being on.

Mine won't come on without key.

I thought it was weird too....only found out recently when I did my 3rd brake mod.

Apparently it's only the 09-12s then.
