I'm looking to fab up a 4th gen laramie longhorn's steering wheel onto my first gen dodge. I realize it won't bolt on without some modifying.
I'm wondering though how to go about purchasing a new steering wheel for a 4th gen Laramie Longhorn, since I don't actually own a 4th gen. It looks to me like they need my VIN # in order to complete the purchase, but I obviously don't have a VIN that matches a 4th gen Ram. Any ideas?
Thanks

They CAN do it without a vin, but it's tedious as it will show them every wheel in every color optioned in every way. The previous owner wore rings and mine was shredded so I just put a wheel on it. Slate gray, no wheel controls, and it was like $219 brand new through the dealer. I think my parts guy said there were 4-5 options when I called him to ballpark it without the vin.

Okay, thanks. I wouldn't mind spending $219, I also would request no options or buttons on it (because it'd be on an '84 truck haha). So you just called your local Ram dealer/Mopar parts place?

Well if you want the longhorn wheel you will have to get all the buttons. It's all one piece

Right, I meant if there were additional options on certain steering wheels if you were to build and price your own or something. I have a way to replace the buttons with just a plastic casing so they aren't a problem. Would my local dealer be able to order a steering wheel for me is it a special request of some kind?

I got mine through my local dealer. I own a repair shop so your price may be a little higher but shouldn't be by much. My bigger worry would be If the center shaft is the same spline, plus you're going to need an airbag for the center cover. Could get pretty pricey.

I was wondering about sizing issues with the shaft too. If I have to I can fab something to make it fit but will take some work. Can't seem to find a picture of the rear of the steering wheel when it's off of the truck - so I'm not sure what size and arrangement everything is. As for the airbag, my truck wasn't made with airbags because of the year so I wouldn't be installing an airbag in the steering wheel.

Without an airbag you won't have any center cover. Just a 13mm bolt to smash your brain into should you ever crash.

There is no cover on it? I thought the cover was a separate component from the airbag
