2012 2500 crew cab 5.7 4x4 3.55 i think get about 14 city 16 highway. Pull a 8k fifth wheel occasionally and it pulls it great. Got about 9 or 10 pulling the camper. I would go 6.4 but it wasn't available when I bought mine. Love my truck but more power is always better!

And how long will it take to get the money back on the high price of getting into a Cummins vs buying a 6.4 for those that use it for lighter duty?

Only valid if you are comparing stickers (MSRP). Aside from the increased resale value previously mentioned, you should shop around and see what kind of deal you can get on a CTD. I think you may be surprised to find out that people are purchasing CTDs pretty darn close to what people are paying for gassers. The difference in price is not always that great.

My '05 pulled like a locomotive, but the MPG wasn't all that. 18 or so empty(tops), 15-16 mixed, and about 11 pulling my box trailer.
11? Whoa. I still averaged over 14 when pulling 10k.

To answer this question just wait till you sell it or trade it in, you will get all if not more of your money back on the cummins. for example I traded my 07 with the 5.9 cummins in and the dealer gave me $30k for it with 120k miles on it and the sticker was only $39 at the time. So i lost $9k in 6 yrs and 120k miles. what would a gas engine loose, oh I can also answer that question, buddy of mine had the same truck with 80k miles on it and could only get $19k in trade in.
Too much torque for their comprehension. :D

Yup, 11 with a 14' box trailer, with just a motorcycle or ATV. I pulled a landscape trailer with a mesh gate, carrying one motorcycle from AZ to MO and back, and it only averaged 13. The truck was bone stock except for an MBRP muffler.

Oh. Gotcha. Yeah, I have a little more than that, but the exhaust was definitely a starting point. As long as everything is done correctly to include timing.. It'll amaze you how HP/TQ and mileage can actually go hand in hand.

No, I meant diesel guys LOL
Better burning.
Better power.
Better mileage.
Better longevity.
I don't see the downfall.
I'm just trying to help a fellow truck lover not make a mistake.
But I see how it is a little offensive.
With that said, I am done.

I traded a 2012 2500 ccsb 5.7 6-speed 4x4 in for the new 2014 3500 srw cclb 6.4 4x4. Difference in new vs trade on the 2012 was only $6k.

The 6.4 has better low end torque and gets about 1.5 mpg better all around.

As for diesel comments, my father's 2012 cummins got the same 7-8 mpg towing his 36 ft as his new 6.4 truck. Unloaded was 12 mpg vs 14 with the 6.4. The 2012 cummins was a bone stock pre def truck. If you delete and chip the new cummins it will get better mpg, but you are risking a $20,000 ticket. The troopers are starting to crack down around here.

Blow smoke, get checked, then ticket and a fine.

They do, but you go from 14 to 18 mpg's while adding DEF to the equation, meanwhile the 6.4 still is getting 14 to 16 mpg's all day long. That's not taking into account the price difference in fuel.

Have an 04 an get 14 city.
Up to 21 Hwy.
Idk what is wrong with his truck.
The 6.7s get decent mileage. But I would never buy anything EGR. Rebuilds til I die. Lmao
