I currently have a 2015 ram 1500 5.7 with 45000 miles and when I start the car it makes this ticking noise that comes from the passenger side. For what it sounds like. But once it warms up a bit the noise goes away. and the noise also increases when rpm increase.

Does anyone else have this issue?

Search hemi tick, likely either lifter tick or like smurfs said exhaust bolts. If it is lifter tick, you will want to address that as it causes symptoms down below the lifters like the roller and cam lobes.

Lots of someones have this issue.

thank you for the information Burla and Smurfs Ill look into the manifold bolts. Do Hemi's normally have a cold start tick? Forr what I can research some people go synthetic and it removes the tick but thats not all I see when I researched.

Traditional thought says a different oil wont fix a defect, but to be honest the success rate of high moly Redline oil fixing the tick has been very well documented on the forum. This is why, for some reason moly additives have less success then oil soluble moly like in Redline. But, normally it is a 50/50 coin toss on the cause whether it is lifter or bolts. This time, my money would be on bolts, go there first if not read through the lifter tick threads.

Look around the forums, lifter tick often leads to costly Cam problems. Whatever you hear, lifter tick is not a normal condition and can lead to problems. If it is exhaust bolt, it wont hurt anything.

Yes they do. It depends on the tick though. Mine for example will always have the normal injector tick. Once in a while I get lifter clatter if I park downhill for extended periods but it only lasts a second or so then it's gone.

If yours goes away after it's warm and it's a new noise that increases with rpms I'd get the exhaust manifold bolts checked first off- that's real common on these things.

Is the manifold and bolts covered in the Powertrain warranty offer by dodge on the CPO vehicles

Yes they are but the stock manifolds are garbage.... they warp and bolts will keep snapping...that's why I got rid of them and went with headers.

Hi almjr87,

If you decide to visit your local dealership for further diagnosis I'd be happy to follow up with them for you if needed. Just PM our page with your VIN and let me know!

There are typically two "common" ticks that the 4th generation Ram have. One is the tick on startup that lasts for a few seconds until the oil is pumped back up top. Not much at all you can do about that expect experiment with different types of oil and oil filters. The other tick will also be on start up but it will last a lot longer (until the engine it warmed up). That is usually a broken manifold bolt. The 1st to break is usually the passenger side far back by the fire wall. One way to check is by reaching in and see if the manifold heat shield is loose. The manifold bolts breaking has been an issue on our Ram for years. Honestly I'm surprised that a 2015 still has the issue....on 2nd thought, maybe I'm not surprised.

So what happened? 2011 5.7 just started doing this a couple days ago, outta nowhere... Quick Google brought me here, responses on here were great so I registered just to ask you!

55k, synthetic since 10k, MOPAR filters, AZ so its been 80f when I leave work and it is happening... Passenger side. I'm thinking the oil just aint getting up there like prev post said. Might just do a quick oil change and see what happens.

Hey Mike,

I went to the dealer and at least for the 2015 ram 5.7 it was the passenger side exhaust manifold bolts that broke off. Two of the aft passenger exhaust manifold came off. The dealer covered it under powertrain warranty with no questions asked. Hope this helps.

I had 4 bolts broken on passanger side manifold for sure, not sure about drivers but it was loud. I ended up buying shorty headers and a AFE Y pipe to replace the shi**y manifolds. My truck sounds great now!

My truck 2014 Ram slt with 5.7 is in the shop AGAIN for the same noise. They kept it for two days last time and said they didn't hear anything so I went to pick it up. I asked the guy at the little desk to walk out with me to listen again, I turned the key and Tick Tick Tick! Guess what he heard it that time! So he asked me to bring it back and leave it for a week and they would give me a loaner. Still no word from them yet.

if you start the truck cold and crawl under the truck you will feel the bolts broken on the manifold while running

Sounds like I might have broken manifold bolts also. Actually, based on Sir John's reply, it's probably not the bolts since the ticking goes away after about 30seconds.
Ticking on passenger side on cold start, changes with rpm.
