Yes I have 2014 ram 1500 5.7 .
I changed oil to 5w-20 and k&n filter .
And my engine started to knock .
Next change I got was at dealership and they have put in 0w20 and it stoped doing as often .

Very interesting results from a different oil & filter Combo! We have heard about this happening. Some have experienced it personally.

If your willing to experiment a little bit? There are more then a handful of members here probably willing to give you some helpful advice.

What oil 5w20 did you use? Do you know what brand your dealer used? It would not be because of the difference between 5w20 and 0w20, this I can say 100%.

Could the filter itself had caused this by leaking down.

No. No such thing in the 5.7 Hemi. The ADBV does nothing in engines whose filters are mounted with the head facing upward. Gravity keeps the filter full. See pic for oil flow direction within the oil filter.

Your right I didn't think about that. The oil can't bleeding down out of the filter.

Principals of siphon, if the filter is above the bottom of the pan it is possible the fluid could come out of the filter. However, my money would be standard hemi tick, the same lifter tick my truck had before using high moly oil. It sounds just like a knock, and if he changed the oil and it changed the aspect of the knock, it is likely the usual suspect?

I used 5w-20 penzoil with kandn oil filter . But I didn't fill the filter with oil . But when I put in 7 quarts I've waited a while hoping filter will fill up . Than I started the engine and knock started . I don't think it's because of that I didn't fill the filter with oil .
Any way my first dealer that I've purchased it from used 0w20 their brand . But the other dealer that I use they use 5w-20 their brand. And it never knocked .

Upload it to youtube?

That is a smart idea filling the filter, but I never worried about it as soon as the oil circulates it will fill. If you use an oil with moly, that is the additive the oil industry uses to protect that dry engine for the seconds before the oil gets there. See my sig, case for moly if your interested.

Sounds like a mild case of lifter tick, perfect example to try some different things oil related to fix. Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0w40 mixed with lighter weight PUP 5w20 should give you a moly level that in theory can help that, h395 uses that and has kept his tick away. redline oil any weight should end that, a very high success rate on the forum including mine that was much worse then yours. Shaeffers oil might be worth a try. You may want to pose the question in the synthetic oil thread and get some ideas.

But why do that my truck is fairly new. And oil was changed as on owners manual . Wtf why would new trucks do that . This should be done by them . It's not normal to have a truck with 35000 miles on it and have a knocking noise like that .

Yeah well my truck was knocking at 3500 miles, so it is what it is. These engines are susceptible to hemi tick, it is a weakness of the hemi. Good news, many guys were able to fix it just by running a different oil. Some dealers will fix it, some wont. Most dealers call it normal hemi noise. Ever since I used Redline, my tick has been gone near 5 years.
