So I installed direct fit flowmaster muffler. I seriously feel truck takes less gas pedal to maintain cruising speed and MDS kicks in more often. Now this was much more evident wt bigger heavier wheels and tires. I've reset trip thingy and filled up. Last tank I averaged 15 I'll let ya know if I'm correct but truck seems to run smoother. Just me?

Possibly just a placebo effect. My vehicles always seem to run great and the engines seem quiet right after i change the oil. But it could be legit too, keep us posted

It's the 50 series I believe. Direct fit delta series maybe. Just a tad over stock. I'm positive the truck takes less gas pedal to engage MDS at like 35 mph. It was at like 950 rpm not 1100 rpm when the MDS engaged as well. However, I've been wrong lots before. I'll report back asap on facts. I have part number for muffler 817568 so that's American thunder

I had that on my 14. Your not going to get better mpg with that muffler. It sounds different with the engine braking and mds. If anything it will get worse milage ,because you will want to hear it.

don't listen to anyone, even if it's in your own little head, congrats. I started using recommended 89 octane fuel (mid grade) and thought I gained some MPG as well, though, i'm sceptical.

I put my Flowmaster on day after i bought the truck. Last Ram was 2wd. So far this one seems to get just as good as mpg.

11.9-12 mpg???? dude im averaging 15.3 in last 50 miles and wanna vomit :puke:hahaha...Ill give chevrolet that. My 15 silverado LT with ZERO mods got like 18 average....but shifted to highest gear in 3 seconds going 29 and well honestly didnt ride as nice or gave me any inclination to do anything fun to it.

I'll add to this... I put a 50 series DF on my truck while switching to 93 octane only and a 91 octane tune. I just filled up this morning and hand calculated I got 13.1 MPG, that's .3 better than when I filled up 2 days ago. I was always getting 10.5-12 no matter how conservative I drove. I'm running a better oil as well. The best MPG I've ever got out of that truck was 15 MPG back in 09 when I first got it and she was bone stock.

The muffler had nothing to do with your slight increase. The higher octane is what effected it the most . The gas cost more so I don't see any gain.

SilverStreak,
Do you have oversized tires ? I got 16mpg pulling 2 jets.
normally get 14/15 with my short 6 mile trip to work and back.
I would have to go get my Diesel back if I only got 10/12 mpg empty...

More than likely, but the muffler kept my back pressure with in line with the OEM. Definitely can feel the difference before I changed the tune and octane.

I agree with him. You'll get worse gas mileage with a muffler. Mufflers don't increase mpg. Just make it sound different. You want to hear it, so you'll get in the gas more. Even if you drove the same, no difference. You're not adjusting gas/air ratio.

So a less restrictive muffler doesn't take less power to expel gas out pipes?
