Hey all,

Was wondering if anyone has come across an issue like i experienced today....

I was about to leave my house for lunch this afternoon, and was placing my truck into Drive to leave my driveway. [2015 ram 1500 laramie ecodiesel /w 8 speed rotary]

So i shifted into gear and heard a very loud CLUNK and then all four lights on the rotary shifter were lit up orange, the cluster had MIL and a couple other indicators on, and multiple messages in the EVIC... [service transmission. Continue in D. Do not shut off engine.... Service air suspension.. Service trailer brake controller... Service electronic throttle control]

And then the engine sounded VERY laboured. Or maybe not the engine, i was inside ;) I was UNABLE to shut off the truck, as it was not in PARK!

Eventually the engine cut out on its own, but the truck was still in RUN... Super strange!

Anyhow i had to pull the battery cable off to shut off the truck as there is no other way (i called a few dealers and eventually found someone willing to ask a tech if there was any other way)

So after all this excitement i took a look under the truck... Nothing obviously broken down there, and no fluid leaking. But hey i'm an electrical guy... I pulled a bunch of relevant fuses and found F57 for the transmission blown. Not sure if this is a symptom or a cause. I did not replace since truck is under warranty.

I will be unable to have it towed to a dealer until monday at the earliest, and the closest dealer is 45 km away, so we will see how that goes.

Has this happened to anyone out there yet? I will update this thread after the dealer diagnoses for future people.

If it were me I wouldn't really mention the fuse to the dealer right away. They might replace it and send you on your way without troubleshooting.
Something caused that to blow, they need to find it.
I have never heard of this happening and I wish you luck with the issue and dealer. I look forward to your update.

Haven't heard of this on a ram. Heard of similar issues on the year of the Jeep Cherokee. Sounds more like either a software or electrical issue.

Loud Clunk doesn't sound like software or electrical to me ...

Rlk, you could be right, unless one of the sensors or pcm was sending the wrong signal/command. Line speed sensor comes to mind. Had this issue on wife's grand Cherokee. All the warning lights could indicate a pcm failure.

You are right huntergreen, i saw a lot of posts and articles online about a similar problem for the jeep cherokee, but nothing on the RAM.

An electrical problem for sure could had caused this problem and all the after effects. For example if the solenoid which works with rotary shifter was on the same fuse i found burnt out :) But again i am not sure what exactly happened.

I had the truck towed to my closest dealer sunday night and called them this morning. They told me once they have time they will at least check the codes to get an idea of when they can fit it in etc...... No call back yet, maybe tomorrow? FCA says i cannot get a rental car until the dealer says it is not driveable... Will update again when they call

Hi everyone

Sorry for the delay, i could not find this post after, but i found it in another section of the forums

Truck was not in the shop long, maybe a day or two give or take.

According to the person i was talking to on the phone, the only issue was a wire which had grounded out somehow. They repaired it and told me no other issues with the transmission.

So looks like electronics can cause everything i saw and heard...

Hope this helps anyone in the future!! If i find my service invoices i can post up any other details that anyone might find useful

No they did not show me any of that. I work pretty far from the closest dealer, so they were long closed by the time i made it back to pick it up! I will ask next time i am in town for an oil change though for more details

Maybe one of the Ram Techs will read this and give some sort of an opinion as to whether this sound right or not?????????? I still question the loud clunk sound---

This could be true, or some bs. I usually don't believe dealerships. Why would a wire just "Rubbed through" on a new truck lol... Time will tell if this issue will occur again, let us know.

Alittle off topic, Your truck wont shut off in gear ?
Mine will and when you do shut it off in gear iy automatically goes into park.

Glad it was something simple and not a bad transmission problem.

I have to wonder which wire rubbed through on the front driveline? The driveline is on the left side of the vehicle and the ONLY transmission wiring connector is at the right rear of the trans and runs along the top to the engine bay.
