Wifes Grand Caravan sees ~23 mpg on highway doing 70 mph with winter tires w studs and winterblend.

What temp you guys seeing on your oil when warmed up? In the Caravan I seldom see past 85 C (185f). Typically 80 C in winter.

Our 2016 town and country gets between 28-30 running 75 mpg. (hand calculated) I still cant get over the power this little engine has. We do a lot of mountain driving and this thing runs up the hills like nothing I have owned lately.

2015 Crew Cab 2WD w/ 3.21 gears

20-21 mpg average commute (mostly highway, some long grades and frequently windy conditions)

Best I've ever gotten on a 500 mile tank was about 24.5, hand calculated. 22-24 isn't abnormal on long highway runs. Worst I've ever gotten was about 18.

Help!

Hi Guys,
I just bought a used 2017 RAM 1500 Pentastar Quad Cab SLT 4x2 with the 3:21 rear end.
The truck only had 11,000 miles on it and I'm loving it, but I'm really disappointed at the city mpg. My EVIC shows 14.7 mpg after a week of commute driving (100% city), about 120 miles total so far. I'm taking is easy, driving conservatively, but everything I read says I should be getting 17-18 mpg so I gotta think something is wrong?
I called the dealer and they said if there's no warning lights coming on they wouldn't know what the issue is! Before I take it back, I'd love to get your ideas on possible causes for the low MPG.
Cheers!
Dave.

Go through the evic menus and reset all trip and mpg calculators. Then see if the average changes

I don't think that is too far off. There was a period of time where I did no highway driving for about 2 weeks this past winter. Not inner city per se, but all stop and go in the suburbs. My mpg gradually sank in the the area you are in, a little bit below 15 mpg. My driving is usually 50/50 and I average 18 +/-. When I run up the highway once or twice a week, I average 20 +/-. I'm easy on the pedal. All highway I get 21-22 mpg. I have the 3.55.

I own a 2017 Ram 1500 SLT 4x4 3.6L Pentastar V6 3.21 rear gears.

Installed a BDS 4" lift kit and new 35"x12.5" BFG KO2s on Moto Metals 17"x9" -12 offset.

MPG dropped from 23mpg overall with the stock tires to 16mpg overall with the BFGs.

I drive 80% highway 20% city. Cruise seems to make it worse!

Even in the dead of winter with winter fuel and mixed driving I'm not getting less than 19-20mpg tank to tank (hand calc) with my 2017 Ram 1500 express QC 4x4 pentastar 3.21's, stock everything. In warm months, I can get as high as 24-25mpg tank/tank average.

This is better than our 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan with the pentastar and 62TE trans did.

I'm driving my nephew's Tacoma, because he is currently deployed. That thing doesn't have near the power, especially down low, that the Pentastar in my Wrangler has.

The V6 Camero that I rented, had to practically be floored to get it to move.

I'm a big fan of the Pentastar. They'll make a. 8 version one of these days.

Any ideal what gear ratio you have on the van ? Also how much do those vans run ? Thanks

An eight cyl Pentastar would be awesome. As I have read, it was designed on paper and ready for a prototype build, but the cost of producing this engine was far more expensive than the hemi do it was shelved.

Did you calibrate the speedo after the wheels and tires? granted you added a lot of rolling resistance and rotational mass which has a big effect on MPG but that seems like a huge decrease.

I've never heard gear ratios on a front wheel drive. My one year old van was just under 20K. If you need a people mover and something to haul some larger items they are the best buy out there. Just have to get used to people calling you a soccer mom/dad.
