front brakes

well, just visuals right now, but the passenger side front wheel is a lot dirtier than the other three, and the rotor is grooved up bad. installed ceramic pads some time this summer. the drivers side is grooved a little bit, but not bad. both the rears are still smooth as glass, and they have oem pads. any ideas as to what could be causing the sever grooves on the passanger side? hopefully one day this week im gonna take it apart and look at the pads.

Sounds like the caliper on that side is jacked up somehow.

It is not uncommon for the rotors to get grooved or warped eventually, I'd imagine it would happen faster with the ceramic pads, but excessive wear on one side sounds like something in the caliper is grabbing or not letting loose quite right.

either the sliders on the caliper need to be greased, you have a bad caliper or the interior lining of your rubber brake hose on that side is collapsing. If it is grooved up bad you're gonna want to replace the rotor...if one rotor is more worn the other one it can cause an unsafe uneven breaking condition. Remember those rubber hoses need to be replaced in pairs.

thanks...the rubber hoses collapsing are more common than the caliper itself having problems. What happens is the interior lining collapses, which affects braking only when friction is made to release the pad from the rotor. Under braking pressure the fluid has no problem passing to the hose due to the high PSI made from you applying the pedal. But the brake pad is released from the caliper by a small amount of friction only, which has very minimal PSI at best, not pushing the fluid back through the hose hard enough to pass through the collapsed hose...therefor, not allowing the pad to freely release from the rotor...leading to it dragging on the rotor.

been feeling a "thump" in the pedals for about a week and vibration when breaking. so i knew something was coming. just with holidays n ****, stuff takes a back seat. and now 10.5 inches of snow. lovin it but it's a little wet in the garage and the wheels are packed with snow. so suggestion would be change the break lines, see if that helps?

you're gonna want to change those rotors...otherwise, they will just groove the pads to the shape of the rotor. Unless you can find a brake shop to turn them...but it sounds like they are past the point of being able to be turned.

If it was me, I'd get new rubber lines and rotors, install them, gravity bleed them and roll...remember that the new rotors are coated with an anti rust agent, so you need to give them a thorough cleaning with brake clean before installing them.

little update/odd finding/ nother ?
definitely grabbing on passanger side, jacked the truck up and spun em. found a place that could turn em for 15 each, gonna take em to em to see if they can, save me 70 bucks not having to buy new rotors.

apparently, the 06 4x4's were the only year and model to use the brake hoses that they have. least that's what advanced told me. i knew i had to order them but made a comment today about it on the phone when i was, and the girl told me that they were specific to the year and model. found it kinda odd

if the pads are grooved, changed them? or will they straighten out?

change them...the dealer would resurface the pads if they were not too bad.

As far as the hoses go, that is common...heres an example...in 1991, Gm revised the S10's front brake hoses...they attached to the truck differently...however, the redesigned ones became more common than the first design...so the parts stores only stock the second design. If you had an early 1991 model, you had to special order the redesigned ones...
