Anyone know what causes this? It seems like the noise is coming from the timing belt..it's not crazy loud, but it's more noticeable..

there is no timing belt. Theres a timing chain, but if you're hearing it you've got major issues. You might be thinking of the engine belt? If its squealing or anything it just needs replaced --they're cheap. Its also possible one of the pulleys could be dragging which would make more of a grinding noise-- in that case that pulley might need to be replaced

could be your clutch fan making a bit more noise?

thats what I am betting on here, especially if her is hearing it while driving down the road...

Steve...does it sound like a fan spinning and you can hear it over the engine?

When my truck started squealing, it was the serpentine belt. It would squeal at idle, then if you revved it, it really screamed. Took her to the dealer and got it replaced.

well in case anyone digs this thread up in a search...

Loosen but do not remove the nut on the tensioner pulley. Use the square 3/8" ratchet (inserted in the little square slot) and put pressure on the ratchet as though you are loosening a bolt. The tensioner will rotate and allow the belt to be slid off.

Make SURE you know how the belt is routed before you take it off (or take a picture or two). There is only one way to put it on, so if the new one is the same size and isnt tight, you routed it wrong

I didn't read everything but if you want to save money, rub the belt with a bar of soap and see if that works. If not then think about a new belt

Replace the serp belt before it breaks on you driving down the road. That happened to me and it took out my A/C lines when it broke. Just a tad more expensive.

he replaced it a few minds ago..sounds a lot smoother, no more whiney type of noise. I watched him do it and now I know how to for next time..he just loosened up a bolt and it popped off lol
