Ok ladies and gentlemen i am in need of some serious help here because iv exhausted the search function and ky googlefoo is rusty..

I have had a 06 dodge ram 2500 4x4 with a 5.7 for almost 3 years now. Im the second owner and bought the truck from a lot with 63k on the clock. Was 21 when i purchased it to pull my girlfriends horse trailer.. from day 1 it has rode like crap, didnt bother me at first, now it has wore thin.. very thin..

So here is my question, come spring it gets new tires plenty of life to survive the winter and some but untill then i wanna upgrade the shocks. I believe the previous owner leveled it and stretched the original shock which would sort of explain the riugh ride. I however cannot figure out how to tell what size shock i need. It sits level and runs 35s could probably squeeze 37s. Please help me figure this out, im at my whits end with the rough ride, 3/4 ton or not its stiff

Nice truck! Look for Bilstien shocks for your year truck. They're heavy duty, and provide a nice ride. They should be what you're looking for.

It's probably leveled with spacers and they're notorious for riding like crap. Especially if the shocks are shot too

Is there a way to figure out what size spacer they used? And wouldnt a blown or gone shock make it extra squishy?

You'd have to measure them. A level is usually around 2 inches. And yeah usually they will get soft. But without knowing what was done to it before hand it's hard to tell what can be causing it.

On another note, we have an 07 3500 dually with the 6.7 and a dump bed at work. Worst riding damn thing I've ever been in in my life lol. But it's not meant to ride nice anyway.

Of course, i understand alittle ride quality will be sacrificed due to the being a 3/4 ton but its just gotten too much,

Heres a question, if its level which most kits seem to provide 2.5" to level this truck, and mst shocks im finding seem to be for either a 0-2.5" or a 3-6" lift; if i go with the 3-6" it would still fit just allow alittle more articulation right? Sort of like the mind set "would rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it"? If its leveled at 2.5 wouldnt a fully extended 5100 at the 2.5" setting still ride rough due to being fully extended all the time?

If you go with a shock that longer than needed you run the risk of bottoming it out. If you are running a 2-3" level, under normal driving conditions the ride quality will be the same if you go with shocks for a 0-3" level or 3"-6" lift, it's when you get into more severe driving conditions that you will run into issues.
The sway bar will also affect your ride quality. If you are leveled and running factory end links the angle will be off and I can guarantee that they are bent. Try disconnecting the sway bar and see how you like it. If you like it you have 2 options, A: leave it off or B: buy an aftermarket sway bar such as a Carli sway bar.
Dodge Ram Suspension - Carli Torsion Sway Bar

I have never personally run that sway bar, but a lot of people that have run that sway bar compare it to not running a sway bar, but with more control. Being a torsion bar it'll have a soft initial feel that will absorb the bumps in the road, but get firmer as it's needed/ put to use.

Going to an actual leveling spring will improve the ride as well. I ran Thuren 2" soft-ride coils for a while before changing it up - - - which I may part with if interested. I had a spacer before the coils and the it's much nicer with the coils. Carli makes a multi-rate coil which i've heard rides good.
There are others such as Rough country, I haven't heard much about them other than they ride a bit rough (go figure with the name).

I have TGC progressive rater springs and am happy with them, especially compared to my ex's Cummins that I leveled with spacers
An adjustable track bar set to the right length will make the ride more comfortable as well
