Hey guys,
I was cleaning up some wiring I did under my dash yesterday. While I was doing it a white wire that looks like it had been poorly soldered came off of something underneath the dash and now the truck won't start. Looks like it was soldered to something then it runs into what looks like a relay and back out into a wiring harness. Anyone have any guess where it was mounted or where it goes to?

Is there anyway you can post a pic of the wire, harness, and relay? Also the general location of them? What part of the dash? Is the wire solid white, or does it have any colored stripes? Also, what is the color of the harness plug and how many pin outs does it have? Pictures would be the best.

I will get pictures as soon as I get home. What I can say though is that it is solid white located to the left of the steering column between the e brake assembly and steering post. No pin connector on the broken side. I'll have to look at the other end though

that tape job isn't factory, somebody put in a kill switch , then removed before the truck was sold, what happened is you acted as the kill switch. now you have too reconnect where that wire was leading or better yet return to oem specs. Should'nt be too far from the end of that wire. Good luck.

I dug into it a little more, it looks to be a hands free system. They tapped into a wire on the main harness. Just found the broken end so I'm working on getting it together

Hmmmm, not sure how a hands free system would kill the motor. Does the truck try to turn over at all, or is it completely dead when you turn the key? Check the voltage on the battery and make sure the battery didn't drain over night. I'm wondering if maybe that wire was a signal wire for the hands free system. Maybe when it came loose, it allowed the hands free to stay on all night and drain your battery.

Nope, battery is still good. I'll get a picture of the box and wiring.

If that were the remnants of an aftermarket alarm or auto start, it would make more sense than a hands free system.

So if that's the case, what do I do?

I would try to trace the rest of the added-in wiring by comparing what you have with a wiring and try to go back to OEM. If, and this is really only a guess, the white wire DOES go to a relay, try to figure out what the function on the relay is/was (it's almost certain it's not OEM). Then figure out what function the white wire was to the relay circuit and decide from that point whether to remove the whole circuit or simply repair it.

Ok. I'm stumped. Lol. And old lo-jack system? Where do the pink and blue harnesses go to? Maybe to matching plugs? As in, if you traced those back would you find the place the OEM wiring would plug back together and you could pull that whole subsystem out?

That install drips "professional". Lol. Sorry.

If it were me, I'd be trying to remove all that crap if possible.

Are you sure it's for a hand free communication? I'd have to agree with rocket, it sounds like it's wired to a kill switch. Also, are you sure you didn't disturb any other wires that you're not seeing? 06 is canbus, so taking out one wire could screw up the whole system.

I don't think I've messed with anything else. All of the fuses are intact, and this hack job is run off of 1 wire in the harness
