I've got a RCSB 2004 Ram with the Hemi. I've seen that many say the 268 is a good choice for the RCSB. Is this true? Also, is there any major loss of torque at lower RPM's? Any opinions on which cam would be better will be grealy appreciated.

268 is an awesome cam, needs tuning to run though and some supporting mods to take full advantage of it. it's a mid to top end cam, so low-end is nothing more than stock, but over 3000rpm it's nice.

Might need a converter stalled a little higher than 2800 for a 268. ;)

Thanks guys. If a stall converter is needed for the 268 I may just go ahead and drop a 260 in, simply for the money saving factor. Is there any certain tuner you guys recommend? Superchips, diablosport?

In all honesty, I would throw a new converter in there even with the 260. The best overall performance combo would be the 268 with a 3000 stall converter. When it comes to the more involved installs like a cam swap, you are better off doing it once and doing it right. Its a lot of work, time, and money to go back and swap the cam again down the road.

The truck has an airaid CAI currently. When the cam goes in, BBK shorty headers will be installed. I know long tubes give you the best performance possible out of the cam, but I got a great deal on a set of shorties and this truck isn't going to be solely built for power as this is a daily driver. The cam swap is only happening because I have a broken exhaust valve spring currently and figured why not replace cam, springs, and pushrods while I'm in there. A programmer will also be ordered after I get some of your guys' opinions on which you think would be best for my setup.

That makes sense. If you are just wanting to keep it simple and fun for the street, then go with the 260. It will be easier to tune, wont require a new tq converter (although it would still benefit from 1), and it is going to give you a nice bump in low end tq.

Yeah, really all I want is a streetable, fun to drive truck. I'm not going to be taking passes down the strip, so I figure a mild cam to replace the stock one will be a good choice. I do plan to address the transmission in the near future, so at that point in time I might as well put in a new stall. I really appreciate all of your guys' help, it's great that I can learn the right way to do things the right way!

i didn't build mine for power only, I built mine to have a fun vehicle to drive. it was my daily driver after cam/ verter/ gears/ headers/ tune for a couple years, and now as a weekend driver and gets good gas mileage to boot.

As for a tuner, if you go 268 Diablo or sct for a custom tune, if you go 260 Superchips and you can get some transmission tuneability too.

Would a 3000 stall be to much with a 260 an 456s?

Does the superchips offer the ability to use custom tunes like the diablo does? If I ever want to run a custom tune, it would be nice to have that feature.

That's what I'm saying. Superchips is cheaper, but do you think a custom tune for such a small cam will give me any benefits over a canned tune?

Where does the 260 startgetting into the heart of its power band?

It will run smoother and you will pick up more hp/tq but you will loose the trans tuning capability since your truck is an 04 and that little bit of trans tuning is worth its weight in gold. and the 260 has ran very well on just a canned tune for most.

That's what I'm looking for. You don't happen to know the model of superchips that I will need, would you? I've looked at a cortex, is that what I would need?

Either the Cortex 3950 or the Flashpaq 3865 will work.

Does the flashpaq offer the same things as a cortex does, just in an un-updated plastic shell? If so I'm definitely going to save the $80 on the flashpaq if it's basically the same programmer!
