I am installing a double din in my 2012 Ram 1500 SLT. I have never installed anything in a vehicle before so this is my first try. I ordered all my parts and got most of it all done but when I install the head unit it doesn't sit flush. The top 2 screws are like 1/2 inch away from flush. I have pictures to better describe what is happening. The head unit is a Kenwood DDX470. Now my question is did anyone else have a problem like this or does anyone have a solution so it looks a lot better? I was thinking just take a file to the top plastic to see if I can make it wider. Any suggestions? Anyways here is what it looks like. Notice in the second pic the top screw is not able to go in all the way.

I had to trim the front lip in mine out to have it go all the way back (attached pic with red line forward as what I trimmed out. did you also cut the metal AND plastic piece off in the behind it?

Ive attached a pic of mine in my 2011, and I don't have the 1/2 inch issue, I did have to add a single washer behind the dash adapter in the top locations to make it sit flush with the dash, Ive taken the front piece off to many times to count

I cut the metal piece but I don't know of any plastic piece I have to cut. I will attach a pic of what it looks like not installed. I only took a hacksaw to the plastic on the sides to make it expand. You can see the cuts to the plastic in the pic as well as the metal.

Edit: Just seen the other reply. Alright I will trim back that plastic as well and see how that goes. Probably end up using a saws all with a metal blade for the finer teeth

Just trim to the edge of the fold. Don't take to much off. Also you'll want to bend the vertical bars where you cut the metal brace. Bend those outward a bit. Might be part of what's holding it back.

I cut a little more off and it works a little better and able to screw in but still cant get flush so I am going to live with where its at right now. This is what I cut. I actually cut a bit more at the corners from the picture but forgot to take an updated pic

I also cut this plastic tab off. I don't know if it helped or not

Here is the finished product. Notice it still is not perfectly flush but is a little better than before.

Search for my DD install thread and you'll see what I cut to get my kenwood in. Might be of some help. Looks like you did a little more trimming than I did

Remember the deck is flat and the dash is curved I think you got it in as far as I have mine. Might be partly the dash adapter also causing issue with where the deck bolts to it.

Alright well that settles my mind a bit as well to know that they don't flush out perfect and I got it almost as good as it gets. Now I am going to install the speakers today, hopefully those go smooth. I am trying to fit 6 1/2 inch speakers in all 4 doors. I have brackets for putting them in a 6x9 enclosure. I am hoping I don't need to modify the brackets much.

You shouldn't have to modify the adapter at all. I mounted 6.5s in my front doors and 6x9 in rear and I'm regretting it.. Going to swap them front to back. 6x9 front and 6.5 rear. Get a little more front bass.

Again, search my speaker install thread if you want any ideas on how to mount the tweeters. Take some pics!

Ya I will be posting a bunch of pics when all is done. I might do a DIY thread for the whole thing. I have pics for the whole head unit install and plan on doing the same thing for the doors.

Good work, I was just contemplating doing this myself. My uConnect system drive me crazy sometimes and the touch display looks like something from the 90's.

I put all Rockford Fosgate 6x9's in my crew cab. I put the biggest ones they make in the rear and the next size down power wise in the front. The magnet on the biggest ones would never fit upfront without some kind of spacer. Then I'm not even sure if it would hit the door panel. They sound great. Need to get the dash speakers replace soon though.
