Blaupunkt

Is the quality of Blaupunkt gone down the drain? They used to be top of the line. The reason I ask is that I just bought a Blaupunkt Boston 100 head unit and Blaupunkt GTX 650 6.5" speakers for 14.60 from Walmart. Also, can the 6.5" speakers be installed in the back? I have a regular cab with the basic 4 speaker system. (last weekend I just replaced the door speakers)

I think a few years ago things started getting manufactured in china. May be why they you got it from walmart. As long as you are happy with the sound, that's what counts.

The truck I just bought has a beat up boss receiver in it. For 14.00, it is worth the risk.

That stuff isn't the same as the OEM Blaupunkt equipment. Their quality hasn't gone down that much. They just apparently make an EXTREMELY low budget line of stuff as well.

As someone who installed for years blaujunk was good for marine radios but a cheap pioneer will still sound better

Blaupunkt is cheap crap made in China or Korea, been that way for the last 30+ years.

I believe it was around 2010 that pretty much everything blaupunkt began being made in china. Some of the oem stuff prior to then was ok. As for the aftermarket stuff from them now, yeah it all looks to be junk. They're not really a German company anymore.

I still can't even wrap my mind around how they can sell a head unit and two speakers for less than 14 dollars. And they're making a profit on that. The actual cost to make is even less than that. That head unit probably has about a dollar or two worth of parts in it.

Beats me how they do it, but they dropped the price again. I have seen this unit listed other places from 50-75.00

It was before the 90s, somewhere in that time they went to China and became cheap crap, I went through 3 head units until I switched to a Pioneer without any issues.

Pioneers are good units. I have a 13 year old pioneer in my Honda that I still wouldn't even replace with a new one today, and a 7 year old pioneer double din in my truck. Both of them have been awesome.

Mystery solved- I went to pick up the stereo, and in the package was a blaupunkt dashcam. After an hour of trying to figure it out, it seems walmart inverted their product numbers on the web site. So instead of a head unit and two speakers, I was given a dashcam. What a mess.

I was still working in the audio industry for the first time when Blaupunkt took their nose dive, so it would have been late 80's, early 90's. Before that, they were premium. Now they're crap.

I have a huge list of companies that were dynamos in the car audio world around that time that I wouldn't touch nowadays. Orion and Hifonics are two that come to mind immediately.

The other day I looked on walmarts site and searched for blaupunkt and found this 13 dollar set, if it's still on there then that's probably the number you need for the camera, unless they fixed it already
