I recently had my coolant bypass hose split (was running down and looked like the water pump was leaking) so I replaced my water pump and the bypass hose and my thermostat.

I decided to put in a 180 degree thermostat as I see that is a common change to reduce the running temp of the truck.

Since the change my heater seems to be pretty lackluster.
Its not very warm but it's not cold.
When I'm driving at highway speeds or just higher RPMs in general
the heater seems to blow much hotter.
Last night I lifted the front on my truck on a rack to make sure
there wasn't an air pocket stuck in there anywhere.

Should I just change back to a 195 thermostat?

If it's bothering you a lot, probably. Although air in the system doesn't sound out of the question either even though you lifted the front. Full of coolant right?

Yeah it's full. Haven't observed any change in coolant level. No leaks.
I ran it quite awhile with the front end way in the air. Front tires probably 3-4 feet off the ground.

How cold is it where you live? Had a 180 in my truck at the beginning of the winter season and if it was anything below 30 I had mildly warm air. When I redid the whole front of my motor I put in the 195 and it'll melt your face off.

I'm in Oregon. It's been <40 for quite some time. I just don't understand the heat fluctuation if there wasn't any air in the system.

That's what I'm saying. If it's less than 40 I would put the 195 back in.

I just remembered that my lower radiator hose was cold when i was checking it out the other night. The top hose was hot.

Is this just from the cooling from the radiator and fan or does it sound like theres a flow problem? The guy I had change my water pump said there seemed to be a lot of rust or whatever in there and he got out as much as he could. maybe what's left has built up in the bottom of the radiator. ECTs never get high though. not even half of the gauge.

I run a 180 thermostat and the heat coming out of the vents comes out a 130 degrees. Even when we were hunting in below 0 temps it seemed quite warm.
