So a few weeks ago, i was on here asking about what parts i need to swap a nv4500 into my 01 5.9L 4x4.

well.... i recently got a promotion at work, along with a nice pay raise. Therefor, i am going to be doing a 4bt swap with an nv4500 next summer.

anyone have some info on this swap? i hear it will bolt right into my truck with 6bt mounts.

what about driveshafts? how will i get the nv4500 to the corporate 9.25 and my dana 44 without conversion u joints?

There was a guy that did a VERY detailed build on a 97 360 into 4BT swap, but I can't link the thread due to forum rules. *Moochoff 4BT build- in google*

Merc225hp might be able to help you with u-joints, he's pretty well learned in that area and has a big list of parts.

im excited. ive been reading that it isn't uncommon to reach 30mpg in our trucks with this motor swap. that alone is exciting, even at the cost of the performance of the 5.9. because.... why drive a honda civic with 32-35mpg when you can have a full size pickup, getting similar fuel mileage, on cheaper fuel? (depending on where you live)

The stock 1500 driveshafts should fit just fine, if the 7290 u-joints can handle the DSL motor thats another issue altogether.

There is the one thread that DD94 posted and there is one more, I don't remember what it was titled. After he did this swap he found out that the truck was no longer road legal. This was not a result of his work as he is a full on dsl tech but rather his states laws. So I don't know who you would contact but I would look into this hard before you do the work.

There is no law banning my conversion here. We have no safety inspection, and only an emmisions test IF your motor is gasoline. Diesels are exempt. All I have to do is update my registration to say it's a diesel and done deal.

The ujoints shouldn't have any problem handling the 4bt as it makes less power than the 5.9L gassed I have. I was just wondering if the stock drive shaft from my auto will still bolt up to whatever transfer case is on the nv4500 as I have a 46re currently.

I found his thread, he is in Live Oak, Ca so yeah big differance. I must have him confused with some other swap as I don't see it mentioned in this thread.

Using the NV241DLD or DHD would make things easiest.

Search for 4BT swap into 99 sport 1500

I know Moochoff lives in Wisconsin and he built his truck and gave it to his wife. Put a 47RE behind it with stock half ton axles and gears and it would get a consistent 25-ish MPG at 65mph. It was slightly turned up too. He took a non-turbo 4BT and did it, so he turbo'd it as well.

Yeeah, I knew you were talking about the other guy, I just couldn't remember his name or what he'd done. Been a long time since I've been to that unmentionable place.

I think he started his thread/swap after you left that place.

95% of the experienced 2nd gen people have left there. I think I have made all of five posts there all year.
