My 2001 Cummins Auto 4x4 has started a strange noise that appeared at first to occur when the tranny shifted however later we were able to duplicate between shifts usually when pulling a hill as it was progressing through the shifts. It sounds like a quick burst of pressure release however it also sounds mechanical at the same time. I have visited a Diesel repair shop and duplicated noise on a test run......mechanic said he has never heard it before. The transmission appears to be operating correctly and all joints in the drive shaft checked. The shop visited previously installed speedy sleeves on Journals when installing new bearings and originally thought the noise was a sleeve spinning under a load. I am stumped as all repair shops also appear to know nothing and they all want to start replacing things. HELP!
