As I am looking around in the market of something faster than a hemi. I have always loved a lifted drag truck and I know that with a diesel engine you can have the best of both worlds. so my question is since I don't know what all goes into making one fast. What are some of the things one would need to do to a 4th gen 6.7L. Besides a cai and the exhaust and a price range you would say with out labor

Dpf/egr(Def depending on the year) deletes and a tuner. I'd go efi live. That's where your power gains will be. Headstuds are a must. Then turbo upgrades. But the stock trans will only handle so much before it will need to be upgraded.

Depending on the year truck you are looking(10-12) at egr delete can be found for around $120, you can retain a portion of the stock 4" exhaust and get a new down pipe and dpf delete pipe for around $150-200. Not sure what the prices of efi live are but guessing around $1000+.

13+ take a little bit more to achieve the same thing.

On my 2010 I had about $1600 between the tuner and deletes.

$1600-2000 is a good ballpark for deletes and a tuner depending on the year of truck you get (and parts selected) it could easily be more. I personally think it's a little early for EFI Live on the 4th gen trucks.... especially now that there are options for then'13+ trucks.. There is a great discussion going on another forum comparing H&S with custom MCC tuning vs EFI custom tunes on the 10-12 Cummins trucks. Without retyping all that is stated there.... If you go the custom route choose your tuner wisely.

A CAI is only needed once you get beyond 500 hp. Trans upgrades are not needed immediately if your tuner of choice also offers transmission tuning but it will be good plan for that as well. Most of the guys around me us Revmax, part because they have great products and part because they are relatively local.

Same goes for head studs. Not needed right away if you have a good custom tuner and you let the engine come up to temp before getting into it. Still good to plan ahead.

Have you got a truck in mind??

I had a mini max on my 10. Though about going to efi due to the lack of support for h&s products (other than tuning). I'd say jump on the Cummins forum's and look around. Don't post about deletes or what tuner, you'll just get **** on. There are thousands of threads on both

My brother has a 2012 2500 with a Edged tuner. HE did something stupid and got married so now he is wanting to get a passat for a family car, so i'll see about talking him out of that but if not i'll probably would venture far out of a 2010-2012 year range, unless their is a older model all setup.

Curious, how quick is a stock 6.7 vs 5.7 hemi?

Truck trend has
2014 2500 crew cab 370/800 at [email protected].

Car and Driver has
2015 1500 crew cab 5.7 at 15.7@88.

Looks like money will have to be spent to be as quick as a hemi 1500.

True but dollars spent wisely on diesel can turn a stock truck into a real beast without tearing into the motor. Regardless, a drag truck, whether gas or diesel is big bucks if you want to be competitive.

At what premium to step up? Just retail a cummins 2500 is going to command a large, 10k?, price increase, and probably even greater used.

Is a supercharger kit available for the 5.7 Ram?

It is 100X easier to make a lifted diesel fast than a lifted gas truck. My 07 Cummins had a simple 64mm turbo, 90hp injectors, BD tune, and built transmission, and it ran 12.8's @ 108MPH in the 1/4 mile...ON 37" MUD TIRES!!

I would drive 2 hours to the track, get right in line, throw the truck in 4wd, and burn down the track leaving many sports cars in a cloud of smoke. There is only 1 4 door 4th gen Hemi truck that has run 12.8, and he has every bolt on part you can buy including ported heads, bigger cam, 4.56 gears, and a 3400 stall tq converter.

Sure, diesels cost more up front, and when they break, it isn't cheap to fix...but if you want a lifted truck that is fast, diesel is really your only option.

A deleted and tuned 6.7 will **** on the 5.7 all day long, and be more fuel efficient. A supercharger will help but I still doubt it would keep up.
The premium for a Cummins is 8k new but you can still easily get a tradesman crew cab 4x4 Cummins for under 40k

On sticker, yes, a 2500 Cummins does come at a premium BUT... when I went to trade in my '09 for another 1500 to pull our camper i originally went looking for a Hemi with 3.92 gears. The reason I have a 2500 Cummins is because I was able to get it on a year end deal for less than the 1500 Outdoorsman I was looking at.
