my truck smelled of smoke when i got it. What helped me a lot was taking a large peice of aluminum foil and basically cover all the floor mats. I then took several boxes of baking soda and poured an entire box on each peice of foil spreading it out as much as possible. The surface area of baking soda is ridiculous, left it in the truck for about 12 hours overnight. The next morning simply remove the foil being careful not to spill baking soda on stuff. Helped get a LOT of the smell from the interior.

Also works GREAT on smells in the refrigerator.

You Could also clean the interior really well, pick up the floor mats and spread coffee all over the carpet, then later vacuum it up, Coffee will absorbe a lot of the smell and leave your truck smelling like well... coffee.

Febreeze works pretty good, but I find it only masks the smell for a little while. The thing is the smoke stays stuck in your truck's air vents and upholstery. Hard to get rid of it completely.

Air compressor, tornador cleaner, enzyme detailing fluid. If you've never seen the tornador tool Google it, they're insane, and you'll never detail without one of you use it. I also did the cabin filter mod and soaked it in a cleaner I have that isn't harsh at all but it just adds a little scent to help deodorize the hvac box.

I used to flip cars and something that I found that helps is to remove the carpet for a thorough cleaning and also clean the pad under it, if equipped. Febreeze does good, but there are odor eliminating solutions that you can get online too. They are a bit pricey, but will get out almost any funky smells. It is the only thing that worked for me on a convertible that I bought years ago that had been rained in and smelled moldy. I sold the car smelling like near new. I cant remember the name, but there are a few that should all do the same thing. I, personally, start by "airing" them out with the windows down over a nice weekend. This, teamed with Febreeze, will knock out most stale odors. Good luck to you!

Have you tried cleaning the seats and carpet with fabric and upholstery cleaner like Awesome Fabric Refresher? You can also try using the Dakota Odor Bomb Car Odor Eliminator. You can buy it in Amazon.

I know this doesn't help you much, but I bought a chevy truck that smelled like cigar, which I hate, the dealership used a "Odor Bomb" (not sure of mfg). They start the truck, turn on/open all vents on mixed (defrost/dash/floor vents) and turned the fan on high and let the bomb off and close the doors. I think they leave it in there for 30 minutes or an hour. they do that before detailing the interior. When I got the truck back, no hint of cigar or smoke period. I am sure a good local detailer could help you get rid of the odor.

So, I knew my truck had been smoked in, it it was t too bad, I thought. Did the cabin filter install, shampooed the carpet, better, but not gone. Then the other day, now that it's getting warmer, it sat in the Sun all day and It smelled like a damn ashtray.

So I called up my buddy who ran a detailing product manufacturing company for years. He said to go to his garage, grab this packet, follow the instructions and walk away. 12 hours later my truck smelled like a swimming pool, but not the slightest hint of cigarettes. 4 days later the chlorine dissappated and the truck is ggood As new. Its a stupidly easy solution and I can attest first hand that it works.

It does say for heavy odors or large interiors to use two, so maybe grab an extra and go for overkill and not have to do it again.

If you haven't tried it, you can actually use charcoal to remove the odor from your car. Charcoal is known to absorb smells, though it would take a few days/weeks to completely be rid of it. Just get chunks (the ones for grilling are fine), place them in a cup without a lid (a spot where no one touches or steps on them), and leave them in your car.

Order you Dakota odor bombs. Set two off in your truck, leave it closed up for about 8 hours. You won't believe the difference...

How to get the smell of smoke out ?

Old used car sellers trick that has worked for me ,white vinger in a small tray with a old wash cloth or small hand towel ,pour vinger in tray about 1/3 full. Do this a few times and it will draw all bad smells out of the car! Trust me it really works ,it pulls the smell out of the seats, headliner, carpet, ever where!!!! Hope this works for you.

The only way to really get rid of it is thorough cleaning of all cloth, including the headliner. I've drowned everything in Super Clean or Purple Power and use a steam cleaner or a shop vac. Drown it, scrub it, let it sit, and then suck it out. Repeat process until blue in the face.

You will also need to address the hvac system.

I bought my truck and it smelled like smoke. Told the dealer i wont buy it like that. His detail shop put two cans of the dakota odor bombs in there. Left it closed up for 8 hours and it really worked! I can't stand the smell of smoke. Makes me want to vomit and now it smells new again.
