You should always disconnect the negative battery terminal when working with sensors or you may get a check engine light for a couple days. For the '03 1500 SLT 5.7, you'll need 10mm and 8mm sockets, flat head screw driver, I used a couple different pliers, old towels to catch dirty cleaner, and something to scrub with (I used an old toothbrush).
You'll need to buy this PCV (no, not the cheap one the one that's $26) and these two cleaners (they total about $15). And yes spend the $8, buy the mass air flow sensors cleaner. No, dont just use something else, no.
1. Undo the two 10mm bolts, the one electrical connector (its for the Mass air flow sensor), and the hose thats coming off the oil cap from the resonator (big plastic engine cover that says dodge magnum hemi blah blah)
2. Unscrew the hose clamp that leads to the air filter box and disconnect it from the resonator. Now you can see your throttle body and PCV valve (theres a big orange "O ring/gasket" type thing around the throttle body that I cleaned as well.
3. Remove the four 8mm bolts that hold the throttle body in place, and detach the electrical connector (its for the throttle position sensor).
4. Take the resonator and throttle body to a work space with a towel and the old toothbrush. Inside the resonator you'll find the MAF. Spray it with the cleaner, don't scrub it or even touch it with anything. It should look like this when cleaned.
5. Spray and scrub inside of the throttle body. Push the throttle plate back and forth while spraying and scrubbing. Sray and scrub and use the towel and toothbrush until its shiny newish. Avoid cleaning the TPS (the part that says "DO NOT CLEAN"). Also spray and scrub the orange o-ring
6. Let it all dry while you go back to the truck with the new PCV valve. I had to use pliers to twist off the old one (twisting right, toward the battery, will remove it) and a screw driver to help pry it up. Insert the new one and twist to the left to dock it. (Its the blue piece in the picture of throttle body.)
7. Once its all dry bolt the throttle body back in place, put the orange ring around it (it says which way it goes), and connect the electrical connection. Push the resonator back over the orange ring and bolt it back on. Reconnect the MAF wires and the air hose. Reconnect the battery terminal and crank it up to see if you broke anything.
