can the rear of a truck be jacked up on the differential, wont damage it? I just wanted to get both tires off the ground at same time,

Yep. If you're asking if the differential will withstand the weight of the truck... absolutely. Just make sure the jack pad doesn't come in contact with the cover. Also, dont expect it will come up perfectly balanced. Have jackstands positioned and ready to slide under the axle tubes. Definitely not the best or safest method.
