That's because they had to remember to flip it over before installing the ball joint, lol! Seriously, they are both the same exact part, just one is flipped over because of the offset. Still WAAAAAAAAY beefier than stock.

I have about 500 miles on mine so far, only installed a month ago, and doing great!

And yes, yes, before you say anything, tires are getting ordered in about a month.

What is the reason for so many folks going to new upper control arms? have I missed something?

I'm replacing mine just because I'm going to be in there anyway and it's a relatively inexpensive upgrade. Plus, I wanted strong upper's for my much bigger wheels/tire's.

Ok I wondered because I have some buddies that can't stand Mevotech due to ball joint separation on their Chevys. I was surprised to see so many on this forum replacing with Mevotech out of all brands. thanks for the info, I wanted to make sure this wasn't a pre existing issue with the stock arms.

I mean, Zone makes a set as well but they are much more expensive. I'm sure you kinda get what you pay for but like Ramittome said, these are a big improvement from stock. So, I figured I'd replace mine while I had everything ripped apart for my lift install.

Take a look @ the link I've provided below.

The stock UCA are fine on a stock vehicle and many have leveled and lifted their Rams retaining their stock UCAs and have had ZERO ISSUES , with that said some have had separation problems , I've never heard of an issue on a non leveled or lifter RAM .

ZONE does make an even beefier uca imo , but it will set cha back about $450.

Hope this info answers your Qs Sir !

And this is why you replace your UCAs

Yep, from all my research if you're doing a level/lift, the mevotechs are better than stock, the zones are better than the mevotechs. I'm going to set my bils at 2.8" (and put 1.5" TGC spacers in the rear), decided the mevos were worth the relatively small investment to hopefully prevent the ball joint issue, and what's 5 more minutes per side when installing the bils. So come on spring so I can get them all installed!!

What is the reason for so many folks going to new upper control arms? have I missed something?

My understanding is that RAM changed the designed of the upper control arm on the late 13 models and up. a few guys have posted Ball Joints popping. Most I have read are from spacer kits. Couple though have been from Bilsteins.

Of the bilstein ball joint popping issue, very possible that the UCA was installed wrong. Have read about gusy who rub the UCa, only to fidn it the UCa was isntalled backwards.

Have read about guy who had ball joint pop after Bilstein install, when he lowered his truck to the fground, after the install.

Have read many many mor epsot of 14+ owners who run bilsteins and never had an issue.

After all the billstein Ram 1500 posts I could , for last couple of years, my own personal opinion is Bilsteins popping the ball joints is rare. Almost never an issue if bilsteins are set to 1.4 or 2.1. However, OEM ball joints are junk.
Mevotechs are cheap and if I am goign to do it,. I am spending the extra $90 or so and replacing teh OEM UCA's.

My biggest concern is not enogh data form long term mevotech users, then again, outside of a cuple posters, one who posted his failed UCA here already, have not come across many who have had mevotech issue, at all.

Other than rust on unpainted UCA's.

Hope this helps you out.

Has anyone used a 3" steel leveling kit with the Mevotech UCA's?

I've had my Mevotecs installed with Bilsteins @ + 2.8" for well over 25,000 miles , I offroad on a very regular basis with a lot of 4x4 action ... I've had Zero issues with the Mevotecs and the bilsteins. I grease the mevo bearing when I rotate my tires , so about every 6ish k miles.

( My personal opinion )for a diff post above a 3" spacer would not be a good idea with any uca and the ride would be pretty bad .

Over the past 4 to 5 years since the weaker / redesigned uca in 2013 , many many members here have found out the hard way about spacers , and eventually removed them & installed the Bilstien 5100 s .
There are a few that have posted they've had no issues with spacers , but the # of satisfied bilstein guys is way overwhelming.

I'd go with the bils , it's a pretty easy & gratifying install if you do it yourself and the bonus is if your planning to install a suspension lift kit in the future you can keep the Bilstien 5100s for your level .

Hope this helps !

Yeah that'll be fine. I run a 2.5" level and Mevotech arms.
I have a small body lift on top of that but that changes nothing suspension wise.
Stock shocks/struts are fine after 50k+ miles.
