Myself, I'd do a 6.1 stroker Hemi swap. But if you don't want to do body work, then I'd start fresh with a "new" truck.

I'd try another compression gauge! Drive it till it won't start then make a decision. This could take years. Gasoline don't need compression to burn like diesel does. :)

Yesterday I drove mine several times, mostly short runs, burned a half tank of gas, averaged about 7MPG, and enjoyed every second of it :)

I actually have never done major body work but aside from hating the sanding part (which most don't like anyhow) I would not mind doing it. And believe me, if I had the budget, I would do a swap without thinking about it... I would actually do a CUMMINS swap not a HEMI.

I'd try another compression gauge! Drive it till it won't start then make a decision.

I have tried my neighbour's compression gauge with exactly the same results. so I am confident he gauge is not at play.
Driving the truck as is could also be an option as I don't haul heavy loads. Might give me the time to find the rare pearl everyone is looking for.
1 more option to add to the list. Thank's JAMMAN.

I cleaned up my small garage to put the snow thrower away.
Also put the rear of the truck up on a jack to check the tires since I still have a vibration in the back.

Turns out that the drivers side rear tire shakes & visibly out of round.
In the week coming im going to put the fronts on the rear to try the same thing & see how they are.

Then will see what tires I have & want to use or by others.
Don't know how the rear tire even balanced!

Well I am at a milestone...

Did a compression test today and the results are really, and I mean really bad...

Surprisingly for a 4.7L the issue is not with the head or head gasket...

A wet test got everything back at the top of the scale. Here are the results. I did not have the time to perform the wet test on all the cylinders s only the ones with a second result below the line have had a wet test.

The first thing that comes to mind is I could swap for a slightly newer truck and this time get a HEMI as I now know better...

Second option would be to replace the engine all together. However I have a fair amount of body work to do on the truck and not quite sure it is worth it...

The third option which I am leaning towards would be to open the engine up, wishfully thinking I will not find anything else really bad under the covers, do a simple ring job, new head gasket close the whole thing up and hope for the best.

Since I am on a very tight budget option 3 would be preferable from an overall cost perspective, but it will be time consuming (which maybe I can deal with), but I fear I'll be opening a can of worms...

I'd Like to have your thoughts on this one.

Trade, Swap or Fix?

You ever think about just cutting your loss with that money pit? From your post over the last lil bit sounds like you have put a lot of work on something that seems to keep kicking you in the teeth.

Yep that is definitely part of my current reflection... I might just stretch it until it dies as I don't have the budget for another truck right now, and hope I can find a good deal when the time comes.

Finally got around to paining my off road wheels. They were so bad before, I can't believe how much better it makes the truck look

The wheels on the black truck painted or plasti dipped?
Those are the 17" plasti-chromes right?

yeah they are plasti-dipped, and they were just gray painted wheels when i started no chrome clads or anything and let me tell ya they were UGLY

oh and in this pic, the truck still had a chrome grill that i had just finished plasti-dipping and was right before i started on the wheels

well i wish i had taken pix of the loads ive been hauling this week, at least 8 of them were 8k lbs or more, but the truck held her own with not a single issue, but i did get one really nice pic of the truck when we were setting up for our massive bonfire, and if i do say so myself, i think this one is good enough for a dodge catalog lol :roflsquared:

Misery loves company LOL!

In for a penny, in for a pound as they say!

Right now I am no financial shape to buy another one, so I am just running it as it is, keeping a very close eye on the gauges and monitoring everything I can with my OBDII stuff.

I have an appointment at a local radiator shop I trust to see if they have a better idea as to what the issue is with my rad.

Thank's for all the help in the decision making process.
