Yukon Gears is a good brand. I know a few people running them with more rwhp than stock and larger tires and they are holding up well. i dont know of anyone running that exact ratio tho. pretty sure my boss is running yukon 4.88's in his Raptor with 37's, stage 2 Roush supercharger kit, long tube headers, etc.. over 600hp at the crank.

We offer Yukon as well. Let me know if you would like a quote with your discount

U&A,. Used to be that Yukon was top shelf in the wrangler world. IIRC, they had good better and best. I believe they have some gears now produced by US gear. I have no knowledge of US gear, but they are made in the states, no idea if the material is from the US or imported. Do your research. Also unless you know what you are doing, this is one job that you may want to have done by the professional, close enough will leave you stranded.

I used yukon gears in my Jeep, I beat on those gears hard with a 4:1 transfer case and ARB air lockers with 35" tires on rocks. Never had an issue.

Gears really aren't the thing to worry about, any of the big name brands will be good, the issue is not all gear installers are the same. Gear work is an art, especially if you go off road or race.

Thank you sir. And i have a local shop that does my driveline work only. They are very good. I just wanted to get other opinions before i ask them about yukon. They have only done oem gears for me before.

:) My recommendation is--NEW CERTIFIED YUKON GEARS installed my registered shop, otherwise--NO WARRANTY--

Adhere to the shops "BREAKIN" advice and use either their RECOMMENDED FLUID--OR

Valvoline 75w-140 sybthetic, after 500 miles--

Good luck

I was told by a rear end shop that you only want to use conventional oil in a Yukon setup. They told me they would not warranty the gears with synthetic oils.

I believe Currie voids warranties if you use synthetic oils in their axle assemblies. Apparently the internals run hotter with synthetic oil.

If they cant explain why then they have no reasoning.

Redline gear oil is ester based. Its amazing stuff.

Thank you for the opinions on gears fellas.

Gear oil is a different conversation. And we’d love to talk about it in the synthetic oil thread.

I'm sorry for sharing what I was told from a local driveline company on a public forum.

Have a great evening.

Im wondering if they were worried about seal conditioners in some synthetics. That used to be a problem but not so much anymore. Just guessing why they would say that.

You're not supposed to use synthetic lube in a Detriot True Trac either, they also call for a mineral oil.

The gears themselves run hotter when using synthetic oils. Apparently, synthetic gear oil does not dissipate heat (wick the heat away from the gears) as well as mineral oil.

Synthetic oils are great when there are avenues to cool (coolant in the engine, trans coolers,...), but differentials do not have any way to cool, other than ambient air.

Seals aren’t covered by gear/carrier manufactures, so it can’t be seal related. I have never seen a master install kit (includes all the seals) call for mineral oil over synthetic.

Hi 9 is another company that stands by the non synthetic gear oil vs warranty. Its been beaten pretty hard on the jeep forums over the years.

TLDNR: Nobody has seen the data from the Currie enterprises test with the temp measured near the pinion bearing but it is still their stance that you use non syn.

General consensus is non syn, especially when your fording water and drop it frequently (25000 km) since its dirt cheap.

Other popular opinions are that non syn sticks better to a non pressurized system where oil is slung for lubrication.
YMMV. As its another one of these religious topics where everybody thinks their right with no data available on the temp angle.
Either way, I'd do it and not worry. I would not however run it for 50,000 km. Not sure how a 4 ball wear test matters in this application either.

back on topic. Yukon gears are top notch / prefered. USA standard is their "off brand" that usually comes in the same box as Yukon or has Yukon marked on it sometimes. Some have reported more gear whine with USA standard.

Yukon gears are ok but the Locking Diff is not strong at all. Bought one and installed it in my 2015 and broke it in less than 2000 mi. Stock truck maybe ok but if you are planning any mods you will waste your money. Shattered the spider gears. Made some mods and was able to use the Detroit truetrac and added some 4:10 gears... way better now. No problems even when chirping 2nd and 3rd gears in drive.
