First time ram owner. I bought my 2014 ram big horn 4x4 1500 on May 31st. On June 4th I brought it back in due to a slight whining noise. Much louder under truck than in engine compartment. Happens in drive and park/neutral andngets louder with higher rpms. Dealership dug I’m and replaced the roller lifters which they said were worn. Stated the cam looked fine from what they could see. Then they unbolted the torque converter from the flex plate and started it up. Noise still there. They used the stethoscope and on the 3/4 and 5/6 bearing journals it sounded like it was about to grenade itself as they said. So, they decided to ship out a brand new zero mile long block for my truck. Putting it in this week. Pretty pissed this has happened but at least my 65k miles truck has a brand new engine right?

It's a shame that it happened but as you say, at least you got a brand new motor. I'm assuming that it has an 8 speed trans????

I did make my first mod purchase. A set of hub centric 1.5” wheel spacers. Tires on the ram are 35x12.5x20

I have a suggestion...don't get behind me with that front bumper! It looks like it'll do some real damage!

Congrats on the new mill; that's huge!

Vehicle history is the truck was a lease in Michigan. Was sold at auction. Driven to Texas and then California where it is now. Shop foreman said the engine was pristine inside as far as oil changes etc...they are unsure why the damage to the journals. They did not catch the noise on their inspection probably because it started and ran. Sounded like it was super charged. Oh well at least I don’t have to deal with it anymore

I just got a brand new engien in my 2016 ( about 500 miles on it thus far ). From what I have been told, don't push it past 4k RPM's to much, and don't tow with it. All of this was of course for the first 500 miles. Many people will say " drive it like you stole it ", and you can, don't think it would harm you to much. however; I just kept it below 4k for the most part, didn't tow, and she sounds good. Have fun with the new engine!

The manual also says to vary your speed during the break-in period. IMHO, since this engine is brand new, never started, I would follow the break-in instructions very closely.

Glad you are getting a new engine. Got lucky there.
Not to rain on your parade but I would go over that truck with a fine tooth comb. It was probably run hard and put up wet. Also being from Michigan I would be on the lookout for rust. Crawl under there and make sure they didn't try and paint over and hide any (common tactic on vehicles from that area).

Change oil at 2k (after break in period)

Then only run premium motor oil.

I’d pick one and stay with it were it me.

I was thinking I should do that as well. I also have a 2016 durango r/t I bought brand new. Same engine and trans as my ram. It has 15k on it and no problems at all. Is this engine problem just an anomaly? I’ve heard the hemi engines are very solid so this was a big suprise to me

My 2013 ran like a beast, I would go canyon racing in north Georgia and run the mountains for hours. Never had an engine failure or anything close to a problem.
You getting a new engine is Awesome!!!! I never hear that theses days. You hit the jack pot!!
