Driving home from work Tuesday night, look over at stereo for a sec and when I look back up at the road all I see is face. I did not even have a chance to hit the brakes until after the impact. I am guessing it was some where around a 500 pound cow (took three grown men to drag it out of the road). The cow ended up under the truck pinned to the rear axle. I had to lock in four wheel drive to get the truck off of the cow. Set off both airbags (I was the only person in the truck), set off ALL the seat belts, took out the gas tank (going to replace it with a 32 gal tank) and pretty much everything from the fire wall to the front bumper minus the left fender. Insurance is giving an estimate of 14,000 and they are going to fix it. On the plus side if there is one, I am getting my new grill and tailgate badges installed for free....

Did the airbag actually shatter the windshield?

Yep, from what the guy at the body shop was telling me when the passenger side bag goes off it will take out the windshield.

Holy Crap! The air bag breaking the windshield is super common.
Glad you're alright!

Damn glad your ok!

Did you keep the cow for meat? haha

If the cow has a tag or brand on it I would track down the owner of the cow.

He is responsible for keeping his live stock contained, it his fault the cow was in the road!

I once hit had a 25lb guinea hen with my grill on a car at 55mph and it took out the grill and radiator.

I turned around and pulled into the farmers drive way and knocked on his door.

He came out and looked at my car and busted out laughing.

I off course was not in a laughing mood was going to have a pissed off customer because my car was undrivable and could not make his service call.

I called the sheriff to file a report to be on the record of the incident.

The farmer paid for my car, I refused to turn it in on my insurance.

Glad your OK and they are going to fix the truck. When they try to put that 32 gallon gas tank in and you have any questions let me know---If you plan to follow the advice of the one member that said he made to cow's owner pay for his damage, you might check the local laws. At least here in Texas the law is a little different. We think a little more of the our cows down here and who has the right of way.--LOL--
