Physics, mostly, given you need fuel to create more energy.

What V8 is making the level of power the hi-po is at the same mpg? Ever? In any truck? Chevy's 6.2L gets nearly the same mpg, but is down 120 hp and 60 ft/lb vs the Hurricane in it's most fuel efficient trim. There's no way to create 150 hp from thin air without adding fuel to that thin air, regardless of number of cylinders...
Correct. The V8 gets better MPG than the turbos and it produces more power than the V6. Best of both worlds

It's the best of neither world, then. The V6 is the best in the world of economy. The Hi-po I6 is the best in power.

The V8 may be the best compromise you're most willing to make, but it's literally the middle of both worlds. Note the standard output I6 makes both more power and gets better fuel economy than the outgoing V8...so where's that leave the best of both worlds?

You believe the V6 makes more power than the V8??

No... perhaps read it again.
Good. Then we agree that the V8 gets the best of the V6 when it comes to power and it gets the best of the I6 in terms of mpg. The V8 is getting the best of both.

And No, the I6 SO does not get better mpg than the outgoing V8

I would say the I6 SO does get better MPG than the hemi. Hell, my 6.4 hemi gets horrible mileage. My wife has had 2 durangos with the 5.7 hemi, and now a 2022 1500 limited with the 5.7 hemi, and none have ever gotten within a couple MPG of the advertised MPG ratings.

Premium fuel is recommended for the SST HO but is not required. The SST does get better fuel mileage than the Hemi. Of course the HO doesn't. Why would anyone expect the extra horse power for no extra fuel? The Hurricane Jeep engines have been great. Tell me which straight six engine is a bad engine. After 13 good Hemi engines with a lot of miles I'm ready for something modern and powerful. I will let someone else buy up the left over V8 trucks. I'm waiting on an SSTHO. The number of cylinders is only a small part of the equation. My Mercedes V12 is a wonderful and smooth engine that used to be fast. Compared to new vehicles it is slow. Times change.

Leaves DIS BOIRD in MY 19 hemi for as long as it runs. Then I will get it rebuilt, glue on the wheels and run it some more. But this is what works for me, and makes my butt happy in the seat. IF I wanna go real fast, I got a MC that will haul. But than, it is all in an individuals needs and perspective. For sure, no EV for me. Since my 8 ball crystal device does not do future events, and I lost my Ouija board eons ago, just be one day at a time.

Then we equally agree the V8 gets worse power than the Hi-po I6 and gets worse economy than the V6 so it's getting the worst of both worlds. Equally illogical argument. Beating one opponent out of three doesn't make you the champion but may get you a participation ribbon...

If the only "worlds" are power and fuel economy, the V8 is the compromise decision. If a motor got the V6 economy and the Hi-po power, THAT would be the best of both worlds, but given that's not a thing there is no 'best of both worlds' choice. They are all a compromise.

...and yes, the standard output gets better mpg than the hemi 5.7.

I just went on the RAM Trucks website and I can build a 2023 1500 Warlock with a 5.7 Hemi? And for the Tradesman, the V-8 is the only engine option. Were you looking at something different? I think you can still get the 6.4 Hemi in the 2500 series too. Or, you can go diesel.

You can no longer order a '23 or '24 1500. I believe ordering closed in December. Only the '25 which is supposedly coming out before summer. I don't follow the 2500.

I have had 2 trucks with the Pentastar V6, which most here turn their noses up at. They have been perfect, with much more power than the 360 Ford I had that would pull anything. More power and 21.5 miles per gallon on the last vacation. The new engines are getting rave reviews. I'm just waiting to hear how well they hold up in real life. All new trucks are too expensive. I heat good things about the 7.3 in the new Ford heavy dutys. But way beyond what I would pay. I don't think you have any reason to bash Ram for doing what they have to do. This forum is full of Hemi problems. I doubt the new sixes will be any worse.

You now if they produce an inline 6 it wouldn't be all that bad. That's what's in every semi. Inline 6 have awesome torque. Simpler engine design. Lighter weight.

Yeah Ram like others having to kneel before the epa is going to kill V8s. But is that what killed the V10? Or did they realize they could get better everything with the V8?

Imagine when the day comes where we are like Australia and have to apply for a permit from government to even buy/own a truck?
I'm not sure what you mean by saying in Australia you have to apply for a permit to purchase a truck, that is not a real thing, no permits required just vehicle registration which is standard for all vehicles. Im in Western Australia.

So, on a whim, I headed over to RAM's website to check out trucks (I like to "window shop" occasionally) - and I was sorely disappointed to discover that they're no longer going to produce any V8 trucks... I hate anything that is 6- or 4- cylinder and refuse to buy anything with those type of engines. So, needless to say, unless I go with something used, or they decide to start producing V8s again, I'll never be buying a RAM truck again. That sucks, because they HAD (IMHO) the best trucks on the market. The 2024 TRX is way overpriced as well - and it's going to be the last model with a V8.

That being said, what are your thoughts on this?
Is it economically better? Yes. Does it have more HP? Yes. Can it tow more? Yes. Does it sound better? Subjective, but probably not. So what is the conclusion? Sometimes it’s better to just move on. Embrace the future and don’t look back. Ohh, one other thing: it will probably outlast a hemi. Just food for thought.

You're literally posting a picture showing 2 mpg better on highway and 1 mpg combined for the SO... at this point you're either trolling or willfully delusional.

I still prefer the NA V8, but that doesn't change the facts to make it more powerful or more fuel efficient. I like it for the same reasons I like a manual transmission, I prefer the feel of it even if it's not the best for performance. It's best for fun.

The all-new 3.0-liter Hurricane engine is rated at 420 horsepower and 469 lb.-ft. of torque, while the High Output engine is rated at 540 horsepower and 521 lb.-ft. of torque. Capability includes a maximum towing capacity of 11,580 pounds, and a maximum payload of 2,300 pounds

Yep, go ahead and be pissed you can’t have your Hemi V8 with 395 HP and 400 torque!
